Displayport-to-VGA Adapter = Successful 3 Monitor Eyefinity

Post by vectusr1 »

I just ordered this after having failed results with the Dell/Bizlink active DP->DVI adapter. I am running 3x 24" monitors. I hope this adapter can run 1920x1200. I don't think there would be any issues, but I read a post about a user having an issue with the Apple DP->VGA adapter at 1920x1200.

I will post back once I get some results.

I would guess next Monday or Tuesday (11/30/09 or 12/01/09) seeing as they are located in Houston and ground shipping to DFW is only a day from that location.

I tried the dp to vga from apple, it doesnt seem to support 1920x1200,when i make a group it forces all three monitors to do 1600x1200???

which native resolution do your monitors have?
does it work with a single screen in 1920x1200?

in the german apple shop, some1 commented it does work with his 1920x1200, but most specs around the net only mention 1080p

[quote] ....
Will this do: http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/cables/Display-Port-male-to-VGA-female-adapter.html

how does this work if it's not powered by usb?

It has to be getting it's power through the DP connection.

The reason it works, I think but don't quote me, is because by having to convert the digital output to analog VGA input, there is an "active" process taking place, not just a "passive" pass-through of digital to digital.

All I know is that it works!!

So, even though I can't say for sure that the one you found will work, it seems to me that ANY displayport to analog VGA adapter will have this "active" process taking place.

Good luck!!

For UK peops check out this ebay dude, just £12 shipped from HK

Can you access 1680x1050 as well?

Not exactly the best, but at least it's the right aspect ratio.

I went with this one from ebay UK

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350263793156&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Works fine, but I have had the occasional problem with the monitor switching off, as mentioned in http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/11274

But I think that is a driver issue rather than to do with the adaptor.

I was a little reluctant about this, but the price difference between these adapters and the active DP->DVI adapters are too high to pass up! I bought a DP->VGA adapter from monoprice - it looks identical to the adapter initially mentioned in this post:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042801&p_id=5135&seq=1&format=2

I've got 3 Dell 2405FPWs that I'll be using with the adapter, at 1920x1200x3, connected to a Radeon 5850. I should receive the adapter sometime next week, I'll post pictures of the setup if everything ends up working!

Nice, I was waiting for a confirmation from another source. :)

Kudos to TexasTango for his find! :bowdown

Definitely sticky worthy!

Edit: And here is an official verification (though its not officially supported) from AMD via [H]:

It'll be interesting to see if this works out with the 5870 EyeFinity6:

Uh-oh, hopefully it will work at higher resolutions, otherwise this won't be much use to me!

Ok, This sounds promising, I've been looking around at things for a few days on display port, and I can't find much of anything. Which GPU are you using in the 19" 22" 19" setup?
