Add me to that i7 Statistic
Windows thinks the "recommended" is 1280x1024x3, and Aero won't work at higher resolutions.
(Sorry for the lack of some things, @ work and I probably won't remember to put this info down when I get home :p )

1. Yes after looking through this thread.
2. Windows 7 Ultimate x64
3. The Beta one from somewhere around here
4. Latest
5. Nvidia 182.50
6. Can't remember exactly. ASUS 19" widescreens
7. Intel Core i7 920
8. Asus P6T (Intel X58)
9. Nvidia 8800GT SLi
10. Nope, was added in automatically

11. If you have 5040 working, what's your refresh freq? 59Hz

None of the newer Nvidia drivers works, with any combination of matrox software FOR ME. The 19x series has considerable issues in general IMO, 191 killed my 280 GTX and has a faulty fan/temp control, and 195 has GPU memory errors and causes BSODs.

In my previous rig, I had a 280 GTX, Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, ASUS Rampage Formula, 4GB RAM, and did manage to run 5040x1050 with some of the newer drivers (191 series), on W7 x64 Pro retail with latest and the previously released Matrox software.

This is not true. I run 191.07 with a Matrox TH2G and GTX275 on my Q9550 using Windows 7 64 bit at 5040x1050 will full aero functionality and never had an issue.

In my previous rig, I had a 280 GTX, Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, ASUS Rampage Formula mobo, and Nvidia 280 GTX, it did manage to run 5040x1050 with some of the newer drivers (191 series), on W7 x64 Pro retail with latest matrox software and the previous Vista release.

Er, you just said the newer drivers don't work and now you say they do in the same post?

So on your older Core 2 Duo machine it works with the latest drivers, and your newer i7 machine it doesn't...

It doesn't work on the 295 GTX for me at least, some of the newer drivers did however work with the 280 GTX. Different GPUs in different desktops as you can see by the quoted text.

1. DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE 5040 WORKING? Yes
2. OS model & version - Windows 7 - 64 Bit
3. Matrox driver version - 2.06.00.026 (November 4th, 2009)
4. Firmware version - The December 7th firmware
5. Graphics driver make & version - 182.50 NVIDIA (The Vista 64 Bit one)
6. Monitor make & version - Left and Right are Acer AL2216Ws and the middle one is a Samsung SyncMaster 225BW
7. CPU make/model - Quad Core 9300
8. Motherboard chipset - EGVA 750i SLI FTW
9. Graphx card make/model - NVIDIA 8800GT
10. Did you have to put in a custom res via NVidia CPL? (YES / NO) NO and YES (explained below)
11. If you have 5040 working, what's your refresh freq? 59Hz

Of all the NVIDIA drivers, only 182.50 worked (The Vista 64bit one), but Aero is not enabled. The GXM setup utility still could not setup the 5040x1080 mode, but through the NVIDIA control panel, under the custom resolutions, it recognized the monitors as being able to handle 5040x1080 at 59Hz and 57Hz. It also had the 57Hz mode, but the Acer monitors on the left and right could not display that refresh rate.

To get the higher "custom" mode to work, I first had to switch to the "4080x768" mode, then, under the NVIDIA control panel -> "Manage Custom Resolutions", then "Edit" the 5040x1080x59Hz mode which was auto detected. I would then "test" the mode which would switch the display but say "fail", but it still drove the monitors at the right resolution. I then didn`t allow the test screen to exit (resetting the resolution back), but immediately shutdown and it has come up in the 5040 mode ever since. I know the 5040x1080 mode worked on the hardware because it worked on XP from which I upgraded.

The newest firmware and GXM driver are better because my left Acer monitor, when coming out of sleep no longer has a slight flicker.

Here are the settings it used for the 59Hz mode:

I might try using the latest NVIDIA driver and then if I can drive it with those specs.

I set this up a few months ago. First I tried to follow;
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=14961&start=0
with the current nVIDIA stable drivers (190.38) with no success. Then I tried again with 182.50 drivers and the method worked for desktop and DirectX games but I just got 3 blank screens with one pixel on the far left of the display for OpenGL games. Finally I tried again with the Beta drivers at the time (195.39) and it worked like a charm. I did have trouble getting the settings to stick though but unfortunately I dont remember what I did eventually to make it work (it wasnt the thing from the guide)...

Why don't you just download PowerDesk 2.06 and run them at 60Hz on the latest drivers? I run the VX2240w monitors this way on a variety of operating systems, including Vista Ult 64.
