not exactly true, the RAM for the second GPU holds replicated data from the RAM of the first GPU (assuming CF is enabled)

it's true though that there's only 2GB of available memory/framebuffer on a 4GB X2 card which is probably what you meant I guess

So when this hits, would it be that much better than the current 5870? I am only going to be using three monitors, and am itching to pull the trigger, but I know I'll be kicking myself if this would give me better performance...

If you are willing to pay the price premium (at least 100$ more), it will be better than a vanilla 5870.

Also realize this has 6x (mini?) DP outputs. SO unless you already have a bunch of DP enabled monitors ($$$) you'll have to buy a bunch of adapters ($$$). Maybe ATi will be nice and bundle some with it?

Unless you plan to actually use 6 monitors and price is no object, stay away!
