Using four monitors?

Post by stangflyer »

Why would they bring out the 5870x2 with only 3 monitor ability? The whole purpose of the x2 in regards to eyefinity is to run some of the games that have a tough time with a single 5870. The 2 gig version will help but I don't think it will have the horsepower to power 3x1920x1200 inch monitors. I think in some games 3x1680x1050 will be tough. Will have to wait and see I guess. But this might save me some money> No 5870x2 with support for 3 monitors plus 1 extended means I keep my 280gtx for another gpu cycle.

Boy I really really hope the x2 has a 6 output model. If it is a 6 port 2 gig ram per core with eyefinity and crossfire ready it will be a day one purchase. I do not think I will go for a single core even if is a 2 gig ram 6 port model.

That would suck, and unless the drivers change I had no luck running an 4000 series card with a 5870 at the same time to use more monitors. The 5870 driver did not work with the 4850 I had forcing me to take the 4850 out of the computer for proper operation or use the 4850 drivers and not get the functions of the 5870.

Hey, i dont know if it is because of the newly released drivers but i was able to run a 5870 with a 3870 and drive a 4th monitor with it...

Have you tried the new drivers?

I was just about to post that :D

the new 9.10 Cat drives support the 5800 series + older cards so it should allow for more than one card to be used now.

I have a 4850 I really feel it would be a waist to just use it to drive a 4th monitor that I will never actually need to use at the same time as the other 3 so I am selling it still.

I guess it would be nice if I ever became a WoW addict again or something :D

Keep Ventrillo or TeamSpeak onthe top monitor while playing the game on the lower 3.

It's good to know that the multiple cards are supported under that driver.

Ive currently got a 5870 and a 4870 in my box.

I have the 5870 with 3x24 in portrait mode and a 30''er on the 4870.

I can set everything up nicely such that I have the eyefinity setup to the left of the 30''er on my desk.

Whenever I load a game or reboot, win7 is putting the 30''er on the left of the eyefinity monitors even though I have attempted multiple times to correct the logical layout with ATI and windows settings.

I'm using the 4.11 betas at the moment but I also had the issue with the 10/13 drivers and the official 9.10s.

Disabling Eyefinity will keep the monitors logically positioned correctly through games/reboots.

I cant for the life of me get this to work right with eyefinity enabled.

Best thing I can suggest for now is to setup the correct order and save it to an ATI profile and when you activate that profile (may need to do it 2 or 3 times in a row) it should put you back to normal.

I save my profiles as a shortcut on my desktop.

I see no reason to use profiles when I am not changing between setups. I'm more interested in identifying the bug so we can submit a bug report.
