Anyway... paradoxally the situation was better before the patch... in fact:
- both 4:3 and 16:9 / 16:10 users would get their Battlefield FOV correct (using Widescreen Fixer in the second case) and with no probs. with ALT-TAB;
while now:
- users have to choose between ALT+TAB ok or Widescreen FOV ok without any possibility of having both.

I played the game regardless of the poor widescreen support. heck, I played the demo for three years before I finally bought a computer powerful enough to play it :D

I find that both impressive and strange. They can fix that issue that quickly, but can't fix others... still, I guess coding isn't a fun game to play when it's "Hunt the bugs..."

If you can tell them EXACTLY where the bug occurs, they will fix it. BF2 is a coding nightmare, that's how they describe it to us. The game is a total mess on the backend, finding anything is extremely difficult and they can't spend time looking for these obscure bugs.

Which was rather my point...
Anyway, I presume the lack of proper widescreen support was more down to EA putting pressure on DICE, then, rather than DICE being of the opinion that it couldn't be done or would break the game...

Good programming is really all about maintainability, 90% of the time I'd say. If something's programmed well, then it's relatively easy to go back and fix bugs or add features. Sadly, lots of stuff is not so well programmed, for various reasons.

Yeah, I have EA's buying power to blame for DICE's downward spiral. I posted on EA's forums trying to get 'em to add widescreen support when BF2142 was their current BF generation. Somehow the thread went missing and I no longer knew what happened to it. I just gave up and lost faith entirely.
It only shows that DICE is more mismanaged than ever before... when they were working on the 1.50 patch, they allocated timed resources instead of a development team. I would have been fine if they had assigned a 2 or 3 man team to try to work on it. But they allocated time... All I can ask is... "Why???????"

Probably because the game no longer generates any real revenue.
And personally I thought Mirror's Edge and Bad Company were excellent games, so I don't subscribe to the downward spiral theory either.

I've tried installing my BF2 to try this out, but unfortunately my Installer dies right at the very end. The games installed, shortcuts are created however it hangs before making the correct registry entries (I think). Therefore the game runs fine, however I can't patch it as the patcher says it doesn't exist.
So can someone give me their registry keys for the game? Do a search and let me know all of its entries so I can try and make this patcher find the damn game. Would be much appreciated.
EDIT: My Google-Fu was temporarily weakened. Got it sorted now.

Sorry, really big newb here with a dumb question.
So I use to like playing FH2 which is a mod for BF2. I haven't played any games in like a year ( new baby in the house ). I use to use dopefish's patch to get the wide screen or in other words, to see more to the left and to the right.
This new 1.5 patch will give me what dopefish's patch did, which is an actual wider view and not just a stretched out view of an non-wide screen, right ??
Thanks and sry again for simple question
Jack

Yes, the previous version of Battlefield 2 1.41 if you used szx+ 1440 szy+ 900 it cut down your view vertically but didn't stretch it.
The new version adds left and right view, however the HUD remains slightly stretched so the map circle is slightly oval but I really don't notice it that much.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but I've never been able to get BF2 working in Hor+ mode, with or without the WSF by Dopefish. I'm using BF2 with patch 1.5 and the most recent version of WSF, choosing the plugin and I've tried all of the different options settings, am I missing something here? Does it still work with 1.5 patch, do I need an old version of the WSF? I'm currently using a version through origin but six months ago I was using a retail cd verion and still had trouble, I've reinstalled my os since then(win7 x64, maybe that's the problem?). I'd appreciate any suggestions people have, I wanted to play the FH2 naval/air battle this past weekend as I really miss multiplayer combined arms battles with ships but I was unwilling to play vert- or go to single screen (I occasionally still play BF1942 on single screen for a naval fix), I don't want to miss out on the next one. Disappointed in the lack of proper navy in BC2 and BF3, any suggestions anyone?
It might be a hell-of-a-bump,

It might be a hell-of-a-bump, but same goes for me... Is it possible at all to play BF2 1.50 at a resolution of about 6060*1080 eyefinity? because I can't seem to get it to work.
After finding my way through the horrid looking menu's and joining a game, my game CTD's.

Yeah, I'm still keen for any advice anyone has about BF2 multi-monitor or 21:9. The World at War campaign will probably do another few campaigns with the Forgotten Hope 2 mod for BF2 and I'd love to participate again. I haven't tried it with my new triple 4:3 portrait setup yet, maybe it's playable like that.
