I haven't played the console version, but the PC versions' inventory system is b y far teh worst and most inefficent I've ever seen. Sometimes you can trade/swap, sometimes not. The Zero Punctuation fellow talks all about it in his review. ..but i guess that was for the console verion, so I guess it's about the same.

Being from the console, the HUD is far from the screen egde and it's also pretty large. But it also looks easy-ish to mod once someone makes an archive unpacker for it. THe modding has already started - the ENBseries uy made a mod that rids teh game of the green-grey monotone color wash. The colour is better but it messes up some of the ambient shadowing, which really adds to the atmosphere.

But proper WS and the FPS never goes below 45fps at max setings (specs in sig) and it looks really nice. Many textures aren't too hot but the post effects and lighting is lovely.

But it was a cunt to customize the controller layout for my Rumblepad 2.

As with the bench demo, find the config.ini and change "jobthread=" to a igher number is you have a multi-core CPU. "2" works best for me, but some folks get best results with a value of "7" on their quad-cores. Weird.

But i like it, overall. LOOOOOTS of baddies to kill. And many PC-watchsdogs were right. I've had a lto of interaction with a lot of junkies and the game really is like mowing down groups of crackheads. Fun.

If you play it with KB&M, which works great, the mouse wheel changes weapons and the number keys use inventory items... also, you just hold tab and mouse over to use items if you want to see your inventory first.

It works quite well.

The only think I dislike about the controls is the slow turning speed... they have a quick turn button, why not just make it turn fluidly?

Either way, it still plays great, and MUCH better on PC, comparing it to the PS3 demo I played. It also looks a ton better.

I looked at the box in store and it looks like they are pushing the Nvidia 3D with this game hard. Maybe it is some prospective buyer's cup of tea.

Nah, the console inventory system is even more dodgy than that, if it were possible.

Probably half my problem with the inventory system in the 360 version is I'm not good at controllers. ;)

Okay it got harder so i started using mouse+kb. And although easier, the main issues with that system will lick poo.

Partner has health that I want to eat? NO, she cun't just hand it over or feed it to me. If I'm lucky enough to have an empty space i just request it from her (then the inventory closes it self), then open the invent again and pop it. If i have no empties, i have to swap out an item for hers (and not one that she'll be a dumb-shit and automatically use, like herbs or ammo), which closes teh window again, open the inventory, use it, invent closes, i open it again, then have to swap request my item back. Adn for some reason, she refuses to hand things over, and sometimes you can exchange, sometimes not.

But I've started to consider it adding challenge to the game, which kinda works for me, and i DO really enjoy it and it' lots of fun-fun.

Oh and the dumb-shit also like to shoot me in the back, wasting precious ammo. You'd think that't be an easy thing to fix... and as soon as a reliable modding pack comes out, I'm deleting her silly comments she likes to spew.

Rant/love, rant/love.

Have been on the fence as to whether to play it through myself , wait for them or find someone else to replace them

Proof that ATI and Capcom are lazy careless bastards. I can finally play RE 5 on my X1950Pro using Boris Vorontsov's Enbseries patch 1.1 for ATI X1300-X1950 GPUs. Not only that, it plays it just fine with High textures and Med shadows and shaders (overall quality). There was no reason for them to exclude us from this title. In fact my X1950Pro likely plays it much better than the crap 2400 they have listed for min reqs.

Is that the mod that ruins the lighting effects? I know some people are using it simply because they like the look of it more.

I think it ruins the look, but that's a subjective thing.

Of course, you could be talking about something else entirely.

No, this is a patch he made specifically for ATI cards of the X1300-X1950 range that couldn't play the game at all. The first level wouldn't even load until I used this patch. He mostly makes lighting mods as you said though and I never take interest in those kind of mods. Every time someone makes a mod they claim makes the graphics look more realistic it looks horrible to me. He included an Effects folder with some tweaks but I didn't use it.

So far the game graphically looks about as I expected it would after playing up through the first part of chapter 5. The only problem I've really noticed other than the intro cutscenes playing in audio only (which every X1000 series owner has said), is the cutscenes that do play are terribly out of sync with the dialog. I seem to recall some saying the cutscenes in general were a problem so I doubt it's a common bug in the game for other GPU gens.

One thing odd about this patch is when I run the benchmark it shows my GPU as a 9600GT, which verifies what someone said on the Capcom forum to be true. I guess he had to change the header of the GPU the game recognizes to get the X1000 series to run at all. Perhaps that's causing a bit of latency problem when the cutscenes stream, but it doesn't bother me a whole lot. I'm just glad I can play it now.

Truth be told though, the game is not as good as I hoped it would be and in many ways I like RE 4 better.

I like this one a lot better, but that's probably because I am comparing PC versions, and RE4 had a horrible port that mods barely fix.

The length of RE5 was the only thing (other than the retarded inventory management) i did not like. Seems like it's about half the length.

But overall, I think I prefer RE4. After slapping 6gb of mods on it, it looks pretty good. And spending 100% of RE5 with an idiot at your side really takes away from the sense of isolation and spookiness that RE has always had. At least with Ashley in RE4 you could usually get her to go hide and she always stayed out of the way.

But now i want to play #6.

As for the enbseries, its a mixed bag. I don't like how strong the now-ubiquitous green/brown color wash is, but the enb mod screws with the shading in MANY areas and makes it seems a little cartoon-ish.

Oh and in a great act of stupidity, the dumbshit mods over at the capcom-unity forums remove ALL mod-related posts except for ones pertaining to skins. Skins. No sight mods, gameplay mods, etc. One of the best things about PC gaming is the ability to modify content. Remove mod posts jsut feels like a big shit on the face for buying their product adn wanting to enjoy it further. Luckily there are a coupe other places for modding RE.

As long as you have a friend to play with online and some headsets , RE5 is superior by far - on the first playthrough at least.
Once you start unlocking infinite weapons and such the fun wears off somewhat.

Not interested in mp, but Abram touched on some key points I agree with completely regarding sp. With the proper mods RE 4 is way better than stock. Everything looks good but the cutscenes, which are pretty blurry, and the mouse aim fix and keyboard replacer mods allow for very similar aiming to RE 5 and you can see all the dodge hints in the appropriate KB keys.

RE 4 has more map and enemy variety and some of the gameplay is just outstanding, like the mining cart segments. I also find RE 4 to be more mood inspiring, non linear, and methodical in combat. RE 5 by comparison is very linear, with no way to conveniently scavenge and trade with traders here and there and the combat is all about running to a spot and gunning, grenading or using explodable/flammable containers.

Just RE 5's boss fights alone so far are noticeably less creative and way more linear. I mean half of them so far have had me at fixed guns most of the time. The first boss fight with the giant was one of the strangest I've ever seen in a game. Sit there on the Hummer's fixed gun the whole time firing endlessly, just after the game tells you you can't do that because the guns will overheat. Yeah right, whatever.

RE 4 has a nice balance of more freedom to the player and more need to carefully plan things. It makes you feel more intelligent playing it because it begs for someone that thinks about the way they play a game. I loved the traditional typewriter save system RE has always had up until now and the scavenging, inventory arranging and upgrading were all spot on. It also has some nice side challenges in the bottlecap shooting gallery.

In RE 4 the background music was way better, the trading and inventory system more adaptable to various styles of gameplay, and the combat more inducing to creative ways of using melee to conserve ammo. In RE 4 there was time in many places to plan a shoot them in the foot or knee then suplex approach, esp if you tell Ashley to stay in the room you were in prior.

Sheva is a total retard by comparison, which is odd considering she's combat trained and Ashley isn't. She's constantly wasting ammo and running out. It would be nice if you could get her to cease fire while you're sniping from a distance, meleeing, etc. She'll run in front of you all the time when you command her to stay back. Then there's the constantly having to stop and swap items with her, while the tiny inventory screen closes on you and you have to reopen it.

What's really weird too is the addition of strafing and mouse aim didn't really make the movement any less awkward than RE 4 with the mouse aim mod. The only time you can really do a true strafe is while walking slowly. It's really only useful to arc a bit better turns as you're running, you still have to use the 180 quick turn feature a lot.

Sorry for the lengthy post, just had to get that off my chest. Back to RE 5. The only perplexities I've encountered so far are two treasure that I can't seem to figue out how to get to.

This is the first, it's right near where you get the key for the gate at the docks, which is hanging on the hook by a corpse hanging upside down. Outside the building you find it in there's a flea market booth between it and the gate you open that has a treasure chest in it which I cannot get to.

The 2nd is at the start of the level I'm on now, which begins in a circular irrigation room where you first encounter the flowers that they extract the virus from. There's a large blue gem under the small metal footbridge that leads you out of that room, but I see no way to get to it. (Sorry, no pic)
