Well I just tried using another Aniform device, and this time it seemed to work. It was the one in the Lab before going to the tower roof. For some reason the one in the library didn't work the first time I tried it, though maybe a Minotaur had already spotted me and started charging.

Again I played the final part of the game without using the one on the roof though, as I like to keep my Animus full for overloading the device you have to destroy. I'm not sure if it would cloak you from the ghost wolves anyway.

Now I'm going to have a 2nd go at Turning Point on higher difficulty. I can't resist games where you get to kill Nazis. :D

The toilet is not in the Zep eh? Well dang, I'll have to look harder then I guess. :?

I finally figured out the "alpha minigame" ! Don't know how I missed it, it's pretty straightforward really. When an alpha werewolf grabs you, you have to strike the keys as shown on screen - the arrow keys, not WASD. If you succeed (it's hard not to), Deckard Nukem will take care of the rest :

Honestly, how I pity the reviewers who playtested Legendary trying hard not to have fun...

I had already engaged in that quick time mini game a few times well before even trying out the Aniform device. I didn't feel it was worthy of mention really because it's too easy as you say and you don't really get a sense of immediacy, fear and struggle. I also found despite what you said that you CAN just repeatedly tap the D key to get free.

I tried a 3rd play through on the highest difficulty mode and fell out of love with the game. I was doing fine until the first Griffin fight, which is WAY too hard on the highest difficulty level. It takes MUCH more to take him down and when you think you've finally beat him, he just goes into a charge attack mode.

The main problem is you don't have enough time to absorb the animus clouds AND stay on the move. I even tried luring him to the two guys firing at him to get enough time, still he relentlessly attacks. The animus pulse and ammo including grenades are much less effective on Griffins on the highest difficulty level.

You also lose stamina too fast from trying to repeatedly sprint dodge during boss fights, though it doesn't help that I get a bit of lag on my spec. Sadly, it's a game that wears out it's novelty after a couple play throughs. It's a game that definitely needs to have certain bonuses unlocked after beating it on the default (middle) difficulty mode. Even a bigger animus tank would help immensely.

Hey guys, I have some serious problems with this game.

In Windows XP the games starts to stutter already in the main menu. the game is also unplayable.

I don't have the problems in vista, though. it runs perfectly there. But on the other hand, 5.1 sound is not supported in Vista.

But 5.1 sound is a mandatory for me these days so i would really like to play it in XP.

I did not find a patch or a work-around for this problem. To be honest, I only found I thread via google with somebody who has that same problem.

but he also has no solution for it. I tried everything I can, driver updates etc. I even just set up my Win Xp again.

Maybe somebody of you has an idea?!

My system:

XFX 7801 SLI Board
Quad core extreme 9650
2 x GTX 280
X-FI soundcard
4 GB corsair memory

Hi Phan,
Did you try toying with the 'System Configuration' setting in the Audio-Video options ? I suspect it could be linked to hardware sound acceleration and stuff. Also, are your X-Fi's drivers up-to-date ?
I'm afraid I don't know crap about 5.1 sound, sorry I can't be of more help. My rig is very similar to yours, except for this 'huge detail' : I like headphones

Yeah, my drivers are up-to-date.

I also tried the dxdiag-tool and disabled the hardware acceleration. That was a tip the Atari support gave that other person who had that problem, too.

But it didn't work.

Same here, headphones are essential in my gaming life for several reasons, not the least of which being I live with a woman... haha.

Anyway, if you googled the problem and got little or no other similar complaints, chances are it's a weird conflict on your system. Reverting to older drivers might fix it, but who knows which ones or what versions. I don't remember how XP handles admin modes and such, but make sure you try those... admin or compatabilty mode fixes 90% of my problems on Vista it feels like.

Why isn't 5.1 working in Vista? That might be easier to fix than your XP stutter.

All games using the Unreal Engine 3 don't support 5.1 in Vista. I don't know the excat reason, I think I read something about a problem within Directsound module.

Also source games don't support 5.1 in Vista. Again due to direct sound.

Regarding updates, everything including DX, MB chipset, BIOS versions, etc?

Also, have you tried playing it with one GPU instead of SLI, or setting CPU affinity to two or one cores? Is your system OCed at all, and if so running stable?

Lots of factors here to look into. I assume other games are running OK though? There's no patch for the game yet, and likely won't be one. That may be the problem too.

Regarding 5.1 in Vista, they totally changed the audio codecs when going from XP to Vista in a bad way. Vista is not nearly as good in audio support and many have complained about it, both consumers and vendors.

WHooohoo, I think I got it.

I had to format my system again and this time I only installed Service pack 2 instead of 3 and that seems to be it. The game runs like it should. And I have SLI enabled.

I need to go to bed now, I will try it a little bit more tomorrow

PS: I formatted my system twice today. First this morning and there I installed SP3 and Legendary after I finished setting up the system. It ran like I decribes in my first post.
