[quote]They seem to be generated from your current resolution. I assume you've taken your screenshot after getting 5040x1050 since it says your refresh rate is 57Hz already.

It's the pixel clock that's throwing your monitor out of whack. The only method I could find to get it in the right range months ago, was to first set the basic info to 5040x1050, 57HZ, then change the advanced dropdown to CVT reduced blank. That will change the pixel clock to around 320ish... then change the dropdown right back to manual, edit the rest of the settings and test it. Should work then.

This was the answer...I went straight in on 180.43 (no CUDA step), choosing CVT reduced blank before then changing it to manual and setting mattsimis' settings. All seems fine now (and I'm not on the 'updated' GXM Matrox support were giving out).

Excellent, back to TRI SLI I go!
(XP+SLI 180.43 was better at FC2 than Vista+TRI SLI+ older drivers)

I tried this tonight and it worked for my DTH2G setup.

Yep! That's it!

Remember to check "Allow res not exposed by display" to be able to actually use the res on your desktop.

Way to go, guys. :D

I was able to create the custom resolution, but each time the power desk se starts a message box pops up that says configuration has been changed, press yes to restart now. And after next restart it resets to the old resolution, and it even removes the custom one I created from the list. Does anybody know how to fix that?

I get that too, so I'm keeping restarts to a minimum...

Yeah, that happens to me too.

Also, my custom res is not showing up in Crysis Warhead. I'm about to check other games as well.

Can anyone confirm that 5040x1050 is avail in games and not just the desktop?

Works in games for me, are you trying to run Warhead in dX10? That's a no go...though I don't know if Warhead has specific issues.

Of course! Its nothing special, its a valid resolution to the PC like any other.

Um, of course it is.

The problem being that, unlike under XP, it's not showing up as an available res to select in all the games I've tried thus far: Warhead (dx9 and 10), Devil May Cry 4 (dx9 and 10), COD4, Race Driver: Grid, etc.

The highest res I can select is 3840x800, even though I've got the 5040x1050 desktop (finally).

One thing: the Powerdesk/GXM still does not have 5040x1050 listed. I'm doing it purely through the Custom Res part of the Nvidia CP. I wouldn't think that would matter, but still. Back under XP, the res was there under the GXM and it was also selectable in games.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Aside from Warhead, my system is total overkill for most games at 3840x800. Effectively, I've got a GTX280 driving each of the 3 1280x800 displays. And a GTX280 for a 1280x800 res is a waste.

Shit! Now, when I reboot, it's dropping back to 3840x800 and removing the 5040x1050 res I so laboriously set up!

This has to be the GXM doing this. I hadn't considered this, but I believe there is serious communication going on between the GXM and the available resolutions as reported by Vista.

It would make sense, given that:
1. Nothing above 3840x800 is available in games
2. Nothing above 3840x800 is available in the GXM
3. Nothing above 3840x800 is available in the Vista desktop res (unless you add it via custom res).

I'm assuming that the GXM re-writes what's available to Vista in terms of available resolutions at each bootup. I'm going to uninstall the GXM and see if I still lose my 5040x1050 desktop upon reboot. Who knows - maybe that will also make 5040x1050 selectable in games.

I would sure hate to lose bezel mgmt. though. :(

OK, if you uninstall GXM, it no longer kills your custom res.

The minute you reinstall GXM (even with the 5040 res set up), it kills it on the next reboot.

I found this in the GXM .inf:

[TH2GODE.AddReg]
HKR,,MaxResolution,,"5040,1200"
HKR,"MODES4320,900",Mode1,,"30.0-120.0,30.0-120.0,-,+"
HKR,"MODES5040,1050",Mode1,,"30.0-120.0,30.0-120.0,-,+"
HKR,"MODES4800,1200",Mode1,,"30.0-120.0,30.0-120.0,+,-"
HKR,,DPMS,0x00010001,1

These are presumably registry entries, but when I search for these entries using regedit, they don't seem to have been added to the registry.

Maybe Vista is preventing this during the install? Because it looks to me as if those entries are needed to provide the new resolutions supported by the updated BIOS.

Sorry for all the posts...but I figure if I document this, then we won't have to reinvent the wheel.

Hi,

How did you find the right numbers for the rest of the data on the custom resolution screen? is it resolution-related? I.e., if I were to try a different resolution (say, 4320x900, which is what my monitors can handle), would I need different data?

Cheers.

try setting up the custom res when your desktop is set to single screen res i.e. 1440x900. hopefully that should fill in the bits that are not adjustable with the right settings.

Well, it's been a while since last time I had the patience to try it out, but no luck. I can't get past the custom res setup, I get a "test failed" error message. The odd thing is, I remember trying the CVT Reduced Blank/mattsimis settings and it worked (on the desktop). Today though it doesn't work at all, go figure. :|

1680x1050@57 Hz works...
5040 works on the same rig under XP...
5040 under Vista64 will stay "out of range" for me for another while...

Use the other thread!
What driver version and did you have the monitor driver set to TH2G? Tried diff DVI port?

The "test failed" error is a failsafe and not really related to any of the above. You are literally the only case I know of where its not working!

Yep, I tried all that - but hey wait, what's that new "Matrox software suite" v2.04.00.011 released yesterday ?! It has a brilliant new installer/config util. I just decided to install TripleHead on my secondary XP-only PC and stumbled upon that new version. Will give it a try under Vista next week, it looks promising :D
