We just have different understandings of the definition of random, yours wouldn't hold up where I work, where I work what I have is considered a consistent non random bug.
Completely random is relative to your perspective of random.
Who knows, maybe it's perhaps a problem with your system, an inherent flaw in DirectX, or something else entirely different.
On a more productive note:
Is it just Alt-Tab that causes the problem? Have you tried the Windows key and then re-selecting the game? Have you tried to interrupt it by bringing up the task manager (via Ctrl-Alt-Del)?
Does doing any of the above cause the same issues revealing that it's in-fact the minimizing of the game that causes the issue?
Oh and Ascii, this is computers we're talking about. Nothing is random
Um, the fact still exists, it's 3 freakin screens worth of view. that's 3x the normal amount of data, up to 3x more textures loaded into memory, all sorts of numbers larger than 3 for all sorts of other variables.
It's not random on your computer, it's a problem, and here, nobody has a fix. Nobody has had a fix for TH framerate drops because of 1 good reason. STEAM BARELY STARTED SUPPORTING WIDESCREEN PROPERLY JUST A FEW YEARS AGO. Triplehead isn't exactly new, but it's not mainstream.
Here's an idea for you... "Never expect a non-mainstream product to function properly in a mainstream product environment."
Meaning, don't take random parts for the computer and put them in expecting them to work flawlessly. You can't take a Dell motherboard and rebuild a computer with it... chances are that Dell mobo is going to give you hell. Same with video cards, and peripherals...
I have my own firsthand experience with non-mainstream peripherals, my cable box being one. I've just barely got it working to watch shows through a firewire link into my computer. Not random, just not mainstream, so support for the issues are LACKING. Deal with it. We're all learning here about TH as much as you are, and if you're using SoftTH, -THEY SPECIFICALLY STATE THAT ALT-TABBING OR SWITCHING IN AND OUT OF THE GAME CAN PRODUCE UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS-.
