I restored an unedited backup of the exe. turns out i hadn't patched the game to 1.03 after all. :( I thought i had run the manual patch. anyways uniWS worked for me after patching and running uniWS as admin.

Also hacked the movies. everything seems to be working now.

Rough theory.

The letterboxed scenes behave like anamorphic video that is dependent on the horizontal resolution. When the difference is too great, the picture is scaled too large and the dialog is not displayed properly.

This however, does not explain why 1920x1080 is working. The 1280s are from K2 which I am working on. They work except for 1280x720 which again has the dialog problem.

*1360/768 = 1.77~

*3840/1024 = 3.75

1440/900 = 1.6

1680/1050 = 1.6

1920/1080 = 1.77~

1920/1200 = 1.6

1280/800 = 1.6

1280/768 = 1.66~

*1280/720 = 1.77~

* - Known problem children.

Not the best theory. :D

Hello, I'm running this game at a resolution of 1680x1050 with 1280x1024-HUD and have a problem while using 'Force Speed'.
I get graphical gliches like these ones:

They are various.

I will see if I can dig up a save and test the behavior. Give me some time.

Tested in my native and in 1680x1050 with the 1280x1024 interface with no problems.

Those pics of yours look like artifacts which may be a video card problem.

The first thing I would do is try the game in a 4:3 resolution if possible and see if the problem is still present. If it is try updating video card drivers or maybe see if the card is overheating. You could also try the manual method if your game version is not a US version.

Hope some of this helps.

I used Hex Workshop and what a piece of trash software that was. It won't even find the hex values that are on the screen. Then I ran into the second step which was just a major ass pain that I couldn't get to work because the values listed could not be found. So I punched a hole into my useless widescreen monitor.

Be nice if there was a working program that actually did this for me, "properly". That Universal WS program is about as usefull as Hex Workshop.

Make sure you are using the right executable file. Also check that you are not searching for string values, you want to search for hexadecimal values. Most of the editors seem to default to string as the default search type.

I fixed the motion blur issue with a new beta driver, but now i reinstalled the game and neither uniws+step3 nor step1,2,3 work for me anymore.
I used the hex-editor xvi and edited everything like the tutorial on page 1 told me. 1680x1050.

Step1/Step3 i used the following values
1680 = 0690 => 9006
1050 = 041A => 1A04

Step2

3D 00 04 00 00 B3 29 88 9C 24 D4 01 00 00 74 71 3D 00 05 00 00 74 30 3D 40 06 00 00 => 3D 00 00 00 00 B3 29 88 9C 24 D4 01 00 00 74 71 3D 90 06 00 00 74 30 3D 00 00 00 00

2D C0 03 00 00 74 1A 83 E8 40 => 2D 1A 04 00 00 75 1A 83 E8 00

It's always the same result, with uniws and without, a strange resolution menu:
-1024x768
-1280x1024
-1600x1200
-1024x768
-1280x1024
-1600x1200

(And the corresponding Hz)

I tried the original swkotor.exe and starting the game using my 'Disc 1'.
I tried 2 different cracks and modified them, but same result.

€: lol strange, i tried just using the original swkotor.exe without modifying it and now i get:
-800x600
-1024x768
-1280x1024
-1600x1200
-800x600
-1024x768
-1280x1024
-1600x1200

-800x600
-1024x768
-1280x1024
-1600x1200
-800x600
-1024x768
-1280x1024
-1600x1200

Before we get too involved in troubleshooting lets start with some basics.

1.What is your game version?

2.What is your game localization? (Country)

3.Is 1280x960 in your desktop resolution menu? If the game cannot find 1280x960 it may break any hack using the 1280 HUDs.

4.When doing step one give me a large section of the resolution values that you are using.

5. Step 3 is independent of the other steps and only affects the movies. You can test it by itself and know right upon startup if it is working.

Some other things to try. Just do step one and see if the resolution value appears. You should have the 800x600 HUD but it will be in the proper resolution. If that works try using the 1024x768 HUD. Then try your desired HUD. What you are trying to do is isolate the problem area.

I hope there is something useful in this mess. 8)

Thanks for the patch! Unfortunately the HUD resize bit of it didn't work for me somehow so I'm editing the exe manually.

I'm up to the part where I have to input my chosen HUD horizontal size but I'm a bit of a maths retard so what do I need to input if I want it to be sized at 1280?

(I want to try a 1280x960 hud on my 1440x900 screeen)

Your HUD needs to be smaller in both the length and the width. So 1280x960 is too big for 1440x900. The biggest HUD size you can use would be 1024x768.

Ok, thanks. So I changed the other two res options for step 2 to 0000 and left the 1024x768 one intact yet my hud is still mesed up. The character bar is only just visible at the bottom and the action bar is not visible at all, still.

That sounds like it is using a bigger HUD than the resolution.

Take a screenshot with "PrintScreen" and paste it in paint. Look at the image attributes and make sure the size is actually 1440x900.

You could also try the UniWS again using the smaller 1024x768 HUD.

Thanks, that's sorted. Misread something in the uniws tool.

One last thing, could you tell me what hex values do I need to put in for 1440x900 in this string?

80 02 00 00 75 15 81 3D D8 D1 78 00 E0 01

Just to reiterate that I'm a bit useless with this sort of thing.

1440 = 05A0 Flipped = A005

900 = 0384 Flipped = 8403

Having just got a new PC with Vista and a 22" widescreen, I tried installing KotOR. The copy protection stopped it from running even with the CD in the drive, but I managed to get it working with a no-CD executable.

I fired up a hex editor and went in to change it as shown in this thread, and I managed to find and make the first and third changes - resolution and movie resolution - but the string for the HUD doesn't match anywhere in the no-CD executable, so I have KotOR running at 1680x1050, but with an 800x600 HUD. This isn't ideal :) Is there anything else I could look for hex-wise that might mark the HUD size?

PM me the link to the executable you are using. I will take a look at it.
