HL2 Crosshair - Was this ever solved?

This was not a problem when I was playing 3840x1024 but I thought I would play through the HL2 series again using 5040x1050 and now the crosshair is gone....any ideas anyone? Fully up tp date STEAM version AFAIK!

I was able to solve my problem with SoftTH by adding the '-height' and '-width' switches to the desktop shotcut (right click > Properties > Target). My TF2 looks something like this:

"C:ProgramFilesblahblahblahsteam.exe" -width 4480 -height 1024

So your saying that entering that into the .exe shortcut will fix the crosshair? Interesting...

I just reinstalled Episode 2 to try the shortcut thing ... mine has a crosshair without doing anything to the shortcut ...

Is it just HL2 and E1 that has it missing ?
EDIT: ... read the thread next time ... ....

Figures, after a 6gb download I find that FF mod requires ep1/2 to work. Plain old HL2 ain't enough.

And I've ran mods 'requiring ep1' before too. The SDK did the job of meeting their requirement.

Ah well, not buying those episodic nonsenses, I only have hl2 because it was bundled with an old video card anywho.

RTFI ;)

And I would recommend the Orange Box for one of the best deals in PC gaming:
Ep1 and 2: both really good
TF2: awesome online twitch shooter..and it keeps getting better
Portal: a modern classic

YMMV

Portal : I hate puzzles.
Ep1/2 : more zombies jumping out of dark corners, no thanks.
TF2: online only, I'm offline.

You'll likely say I'm difficult or something, truth is, I haven't seen a game I'm looking forward to in ages, and those that I might have considered have crashed and burned.

Unfortunately yes, the current and seemingly unending trend is to pass horror and misc. other dark jumpy type games as sci-fi. Seems you can't have science-fiction without mutants, dark corners and tight corridors.

I would have never even considered playing hl/hl2 had it not been bundled with one of my cards.

Same for stalker which came with these ultras, I haven't played it yet because it seems to be more horror junk.

And to those who would say I'm a coward/scaredy-cat/whatever, consider this, I don't jump in-game, I jump days, weeks, months afterwards, when my mind decides it's a good time to re-live as real as anything else that particularly dark and jumpy moment without giving me a moments notice. So no, I don't care for that thank you.

I don't have a photographic memory but almost, so I have to be careful what I record for the playback is seldom pleasant.

Anywho, sorry to waste thread space on something unrelated.

Time for an update.

First reply from Steam : Try crosshair 1 in the console.

Tried it - no joy.

Second reply : flush the steam directory and the half-life 2 sub-dir then restart, check your game cache and restart game.

Tried it - No joy.

Waiting for solution #3...

I haven't read the entire thread, sorry. I have a crosshair but it is a pale yellow and gets lost all the time with lighting. Is there a way to change the color? I am using the steam HL2 version.

Have you tried cl_crosshair_color ? It takes an RGB argument, i.e. cl_crosshair_color "255 255 255" would give you black crosshair.

I tried your suggestion and got an "unknown command" but it turns out that the problem is with th2go using 3 screens. if I switch to a single screen I have an entirely diferent crosshair.
On a single screen I have the 4 dot crosshair with an arc on each side that makes it easy to see, but using th2go and 3 screens then I only have the 4 tiny dots that are hard to see. I don't know where the arc's go but they aren't there in triple screen.

BTW I run th2go at 4320x900

Actually it is not three screens, as there is no way for software to detect how many screens are hooked up to a single DVI or VGA port. It is the aspect ratio.

I understand that th2go is seen as a single screen. but that doesn't change the fact that I have different crosshairs when using a single screen vs. 3 screens. I think that the crosshair is treated the same as HUD so when I go 3 screen it is warped the same as menues so that I don't see the same as on single screen.

Just did a fresh install after a motherboard/CPU/video card change and still no crosshair for me.

I guess I could tape something in the middle of my middle screen...

run it in a single screen aspect ratio and let me know if you have one then. It may just need a color change which I did on mine to make it more visible. This site has a lot of info> http://www.bullseyecrosshairs.com/hl2sites2.shtm

Also this site has an installer that can change your crosshair shape and color (I couldn't get it to work on my Vista 64 but it's worth a try)> http://www.mishepsbasement.com/MiShepsCrosshair.htm

All 4:3 resolutions gives me a nice crosshair, all 16:9 resolution I get none.
I will look at the site you gave, thanks.

Just to update on this apparently its still an issue that they have no solution for. Recently filed a trouble ticket to them and they told me to sit patient and watch the news page for information. For anyone else who is having this problem I recommend scotch taping a transparency sheet to the top of your center panel with the center marked with a marker using a game that actually does show a cursor. Flip the sheet into place as desired. Another low tech solution is a marked piece of clear scotch tape.
