Hmm try right clicking the Bioshock Shortcut located under the "GAMES EXPLORER" there you should see "Play" and "Play DX-9"
Or you can add the following as a parameter in your shortcut
"-dx9"
So it would look like something like
Code: Select all
"C:Program Files2K GamesBioShock DemoBuildsReleaseBioshock.exe" -dx9
I just bought the game haven't installed it yet.

Sorry for the double post, but I hope this would help...
I noticed when I got in the game (Under the DX10 version) and disabled DX10 support from INSIDE the game, that did not help.. which leads me to believe the problem might not be with the ENGINE, but MAYBE the executable.
I noticed that Racer_S uses Win XP SP2, not Vista, which obviously would not have DX10 support.. so he might not know about this.
For the game at least on Vista, under the GAMES EXPLORER there are 2 different settings for the same executable.
There is DX10 and DX9
DX10 is located at
Code: Select all
"C:Program Files2K GamesBioShockBuildsReleaseBioshock.exe"
and DX9 is
Code: Select all
"C:Program Files2K GamesBioShockBuildsReleaseBioshock.exe" -dx9
So my question is... is it because the FOV is looking for a different app that stars? like the difference between the DEMO and the Full version? so you would basically add a new entry in the FOV hack for the DX10 launcher?
Just a though.. hope it helps at all.

That nailed it. I didnt have any reference to Bioshock in my start/games, but there was a "games explorer". (which did contain bioshock) Executing this in dx9 and setting my graphics rendering ingame to dx9 worked.
Also editing the shortcut on my desktop to include "-dx9" worked. This is the preferred method to me.
Thanks again! Hopefully there will be a crosshair fix or an offical patch sometime soon.

Hmmmm.. Don't know what happened, had it working.. shut the game.. started the DX10 version to test it.. then when i went back to the DX9 version with the FOV it looked like crap.. the FOV Hack is still doing something cause I can edit it..
but using 0.337 and 0.037 did not look right anymore.. can't figure out what numbers to use.. any ideas?

The crosshair looks stretched like a big potato. isn't everything in the hud stretched? (health, eve, menus, etc) It was a pretty late night of gaming last night but i swear the crosshair @ 1280x1024 was round.
SPOILER WARNING:
I wonder what the camera recticle will look like...

Wow!
Thank you guys for doing this.
Amazing.
As luck would have it, my motherboard fried yesterday morning so my copy of Bioshock taunted me all night sitting on my desk!
Built a new rig today (E6850 Core Duo on an eVGA 680i MB with two gig ram) so can't WAIT to try this out tonight after the kids go to bed.
Thanks again!

Amazing. Since I'm using TH2Go with three 1680x1050 monitors, I get a little bit of stretching with the TH2Go... but this patch lets me minimize that effect. I'll get some screenshots when I stop playing long enough to get FRAPS or something.

Sadly, my rig can't play this game at surround resolution.
Even though I've got a pair of 7800GTX's in SLI and a E6850 Duo, the frames are in the teens and thus unplayable.
Until I get a pair of 9800's (crossing my fingers for Nov.), I'll be stuck in single screen mode.
However... I'm having a problem that I hope someone can help me with.
When I started the game for the first time, I forgot to set the option under Window's properties that allows me the ability to switch my desktop to 1600x1200 mode. Thus, in game now, although 3840x1024 is available, the best 4:3 res I can select is 1280x1024 even though my desktop is running at 1600x1200.
I can't find an optin in the Bioshock .ini's to allow in-game selection of 1600x1200.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Wazoo
BTW - Do you need an 8800 to run this game with an AA?

You did try this without going through the matrox triplehead2go right? If not that has a max vertical of 1024 - which makes sense why 1280x1024 is only available.
BTW - I'm trying to also tweak my system to make the game playable. It's not a fluid as I would like it using (2) 7950GX2 (quad SLi) setup.
no numpad = hack not enabled...

Racer_S & Paddy the Wak you guys are awesome!
One request - is it possible to edit some file or registry to accomplish what Racer_S does? I use a Deck keyboard (smaller in size) and it doesn't have a number pad. So trying to activate this hack doesn't seem to work. Besides trying to dig out a USB keyboard, is there another way to enable this?
Thank You! The game companies should let you guys beta test their games...

I'm playing in surround resolution with only 1 7800GS card. Playing in Surround and Max Textures, with almost everything else turned off, is good enough for me...

I'll have to experiment a bit... but the difference, IMHO, between medium settings and high settings was profound.
Medium just looked so "flat" compared to high.
However.... even with Medium settings, it was still in the teens.
Can you tell me what your settings are?

Going through the TH2Go should not be the problem. For example, I can play WoW in either 3840x1024 or instantly switch to 1600x1200 and play on my center screen without a problem.
The TH2Go will allow 1600x1200 pass-through to the center screen.
However... I just can't seem to get it to do it in this game currently...

What are your Bioshock settings and what type of FPS are you getting?

That's interesting - I guess I have an older TH2Go (analog) or just Didn't know this option on the Digital TH2Go. If that IS the case - I might have to upgrade to the Digital. I would try and just load the game without the TH2Go hardware and see if it's a something that could be related to the matrox hardware/software or the game itself (process of elimination).
Tonight or Friday night I'm going to have more time to really fine tune this game and make it work. I already know updating to the beta nVidia drivers helped alot (I was already trying to make a custom setting for this game). I need to load fraps again too. I'll let you know when I have more info.

Ok so about the problem I'm having.. I can get the FOV hack to work, so that I can adjust my settings ingame by using +/- and CTRL +/-
My only problem is that I can't get it to look right using the settings posted on the forum
Here's what my config file looks like
My settings on the Program GUI are
Width: 0.337
Height: 0.037
Any ideas? (I can set it manually, but I'd rather get the numbers that someone else has perfected, can't tell when it's good)
Hmm another problem, the textures look horrible, but think this might be a problem on my end.
