interesting, i didnt think a mousemat would make any different if you have an optical mouse and a decent table.. but then what do i know hey..

I use a thumball mouse for gaming - no pad for me, no tired arms, etc. Not for everyone though.

I used to thumball too ... swore by it for years ... untill i was forced to get a new keyboard last year, and decided to go wireless. (it was complicated, involved my then 5-year old nephew and a bottle of Hawaiian punch)

when my free mousepad (average 9x6 incher from roadrunner) proved to be too small for gaming - i.e. nasty slices in TW2k5 when the mouse fell off at the end of my swing, i went to Office Depot, and for 10$ picked up a 12"x18" Allsop pad with the blue raindrops on it ...

i used to swear that the thumball was the way to go for FPS gaming, as i made it thru tribes 1 & 2, all the UT games, and HL 1 & 2 with it ... and every other game i ever played since 98 ...
but now if i try to go back, i really feel there is a loss of freedom. it's really hard to explain.

I am thinking about one of those 30"x18" pads for work, so i can have a little wrist padding without having to have the gel log ... if newegg would ever get them back in stock ...

I'm using a MS Intellimouse Excplorer 2.0 with my faithful "Freedom" mouse pad I got at Office Depot. It has a flag with an eagle in front of it. It also cleans up nicely with a small scrub brush and some dawn dishwashing detergent. It's not a plastic pad. it's a fabric pad with a rubber backing. The fabric is very thin. It's fast enough for me...faster than I can move the mouse. :)

Thats what I used to think until I won the mousepad. Much less friction, 200% less.

Here is a test. Nudge your mouse gently and see how far it moves along the surface of your desk. When I give my mouse a gentle nudge it moved about 6", a hard nudge and it goes completely off the mouse pad. It nearly is frictionless.

How cold does your hand get with a glass mousemat? Mine gets really cold already with a fabric one! :(

Mine doesnt get cold at all on my cloth pad or atleast the parts of my had that touch the pad, the top of my hand freezes :P

I normally have really cold hands anyway - but during the winter if I work on a computer for a prolonged length of time my right hand is literally blue... which is why I'm dubious about glass/metal mousemats...

I like the warm feeling of fabric pads too.

Ive had to dump my Logitech MX Laser though as i havent found a cloth pad it can track properly on. Annoyingly, my old MS Optical mouse has no problems at all!

My G5 works fine on every surface I've tried it on, which is more than can be said for my MS Optical mice which absolutely hate working on mousemats.

Honestly my hand doesn't say warm on a fabric pad - but if I've got something sucking even more heat out of my hand, I'll have problems I think. Possibly part of the problem is I can't stand having my rooms too warm - I'd rather wear a jumper than I would turn up the heating. ;) It's cheaper on the electricity bills, too... :lol:
