Ok. I've updated the template to add a note that the "Screen change" section should use widescreen shots with greater horizontal resolutions, especially if it's a 2D game. This rule is less important in the "Aspect ratio" section, not to mention very hard to follow (I don't follow it myself), so I didn't repeat it there.

I think that in your template you might as for screenshots based on specific resolutions. Maybe something like, "Please take screenshots at either 1600x1200, 1920x1080, and 1920x1200; or 1024x768, 1280x720 and 1280x800. Then, please resize the screenshots to 480px high."

Yes that was what I wanted to say, sorry for my bad english.

Update, Release client 4 is already out.

Abandonware is illegal. I would advise removing that link.

I'm not quite sure it is. For instance there are games there that can't be downloaded because they are still part of a non-freeware licence, all others seem to be okay.

have a look for xcom and the likes,

I still visit occasionally.

Actually, the hermit is correct. Abandonware is, technically, illegal and there are companies that actively try to get their games removed from abandonware sites.

maherie, what you are seeing on these sites is one of 4 things:

1. Games whose owners do not want downloaded, regardless of whether or not the are obtainable by any legal means.

2. Games whose owners don't care whether or not they are downloaded.

3. Games whose owners have specifically released to the public domain.

4. Games whose owners do not exist anymore (such as Looking Glass Studios, makers of Theif and System Shock), thereby creating a kind of "grey" area in copyright infringement, since they never sold the rights to some of their games before they went under.

The only truly legal way to download a full game for free is in the case of #3. #4 has been debated for as long as there has been downloadable content on the internet, but is still technically illegal since noone owns the rights to those games to release them to the public domain.

I personally do not have any problem with 2, 3, or 4. They are sometimes the only way to keep the classics going. X-com would have been forgotten long ago had it not been for these sites, IMO.

I usually don't have any ethical problems with abandonware either. I just would like to avoid seeing WSGF get in trouble for condoning piracy (which abandonware technically is under the law).
