The Steam release times are generally in the retail agreement... you can often get a game earlier by going retail, the whole "play it first" thing really only applies to Valve releases that come out at midnight.

Amazon preorder has shipped... woo-hoo.

Tomorrow I will be killing fools.

I plan to use this game for part 2 of my long delayed 'I Don't Play Multiplayer' series as well, if anyone actually cares.

1st and last time I will pre-order a game on Steam. I'm an instant gratification guy and the thought of waiting for an electronic download longer then had I just stopped by Fry's on my way home...doesn't sit well with me.

I should have known better

Good move, start a game that millions of people haven't been playing for years.

I live in Panama, I've got no choice but to order from Steam. I could wait for it to show up in stores on PC but that could take weeks and will cost upwards of +$90USD. Kind of sucks but whatever, this game is going to be sweet.

Preloads are and always have been pretty rare on Steam.

I am going to use a VPN to try and trick the EA DLer version of BC2 into thinking I am in the US.... who knows I may get it at 7 oclock tonight, rather than some time this Friday

Yeah, the Preload not being available really doesn't bother me much. What had my panties in a twist was that the unlock time was slated to be 5:00pm pst which was a full 9 hours later than I could drive to the store to purchase it.

However, it looks like Steam has updated the unlock time to "~17 hours" from now which puts it right at 8am pst.

...of course...my work calendar went in the last 60 minutes from having no meetings tomorrow to having 4 of them. :?

Day 1 patch has been published

It's slightly less than 300MB in size. Assorted fixes, some perf improvements, fov controllable via Settings.ini (fov=55 default I think) and um some other things. More info later, it would be nice with some sleep now.

Steam & preloads - Still working on it. We are fixing some silly configuration errors with the Steam version right this minute. Given that we are trying to make the game release in the US in about 2.5h preloading for that region will make a minimal difference, but if possible we'll do it for regions with a later release date.

no closure, sorry.

They're shooting for a midnight eastern-time release. It also sounds like the vertical FOV will be configurable now via .ini file.

And for some bizarre reason, I am in. Ran the Updater.exe direct to get the Day One patch, it DL'd and installed it and afterwards asked if I wanted to play. Yep I said and I was in. almost 4 days before it is supposed to unlock over here. Well done EA, this is from the EA downloader version. :cheers

My PC is now going to stay on (with BC2 ALT-TAB in the back ground as necessary, like now) until the official launch just in case I get stymied by the date checker if I try and run it again LOL

How does that help those that have pre ordered it? From Steam for example?

But I likes where you heads at. Props on.

Sorry, JW, only helps if you brought from EA store. Got a few guys who have followed my instructions and we are playing. Bugger all servers got anybody on them, and the ones that do have clans like AK (with their free 'we won the BC2 BETA Cup' copies) pwning us normal people. Still good fun, played on some Thai servers, which are good.

Oh well, you enjoy your bountiful server wasteland then.

I believe the FOV adjustment has a glitch... in singleplayer, when you get in the boat for the first time, the view is all messed up. The soldiers sit on air and the water is in the boat. Tested it with two higher FOVs, both messed up, reverted to default FOV, looks perfect.

SHould I be manually adjusting the FOV setting for 3x16:9? It looks much different than the beta did for me.

try setting it to 63 and see what you get. Looking much better for me. source: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc-beta/923285-how-change-fov.html (post 4).

Not real good at this stuff, that's why I read this site. :D So I'll play it like this and wait for you guys to eventually tell me what to set it at properly.

;)
