Games are dead, now I need a new niche hobby. I hear good things about virtual killer robots....

I recommend becoming a classic movie snob. Then you can complain bitterly about how Fox's BRs use excessive DNR to cut down on grain making gritty documentary-like movies such as The Longest Day resemble Pixar cartoons, and whine about how they ****ed around with the colors in The Godfather. And then there's the occasional exciting news such as how they recently found a complete print of Fritz Lang's sci-fi masterpiece Metropolis which was believed lost for 80 years, and a BR is in the works that will integrate the missing scenes.

Ya. Mainstream = console = less attention to PC.

WoW and Sims are some of the biggest mainstream games of all time and are PC exclusives.

It is not the hardware, it is the intended audience.

Both of those games have their genre tied up so well that competition has next to no chance of succeeding, even if they're good.

I wonder, sometimes, what the MMO world would be like if WoW had never been released, or had been released and fallen flat on its face in fail... 8)

Not sure if this has already been posted... but ouch.

Ars Technica

The bit that really, really stings?

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

Mouselook is now custom. And Text chat. And the ability change graphics settings. WTF? Mouselook has been around since Quake/Duke3D... it's like Infinity Ward are trying their hardest to make PC gamers (the people who originally made them successful) hate their guts beyond rational thought...

...

Looks like DICE have got it made. EA must be rubbing their hands in glee at all the clans who are going to move to Battlefield from Call of Duty...

I wish I had about several thousand dollars to spend. Because I would spend it all on producing a local ad that demotes Modern Warfare 2 in general.

I guess YouTube is the next best step, in a way...

Mainstream gamers preffer gamepads, so I can sadly see a day where alternative control methods, even on PC, are considered a luxury.

I only use a gamepad on my PC for GRID and Street Fighter IV

Otherwise KB+M

I also hardly ever play either of those games either so the 360 controller is gathering dust...

I'm talking gaming as a whole. The vast majority of gamers use gamepads...

Yes. My entire point really is that the mainstream casual gamer will rule the mainstream corporate game industry more and more as time goes on. The Ubisofts, the EAs... the Infinity Wards. They are spending so much money and so focused on the mass market that they will bend to their whims and design around them, hence matchmaking, hence quest arrows, hence gamepads and menus designed for them. I can definately see these guys porting a game someday that requires a pad... hell, Resident Evil 4 already did, really.

We need to look elsewhere for niche products, the main gaming houses are no longer interested. Luckily on PC we have endless indie options and abilities.

Buy our game if you want to play it! Why give a demo when you could just have people buy it instead?!

In their defense, I am sure people can use the original as a basis for deciding if they want the very similar sequel.
