Well, I won't be hearing from one of them until August...

Out of office reply.

I am back 2005-08-14.

Well, I agree with HoodooGuru. There must be a way to enable widescreen support in this game. But I'm afraid that I'm through trying for the time being. I just hope that DICE responds to HoodooGuru with some helpful news.

So people won't duplicate my efforts, here's what I tried without success:

+fov 106
+fovx 106
+fov 1 +fov 106
+fov 0 +fov 106
+fov 1 +fovx 106
+overridefov 106
+fov set_OVERRIDEFOV=106
+w +fov 106
+r +fov 106

Plus several more variations that I've forgotten. Anyway, maybe someone else will have better luck. I just don't think I can stand to wait while the single player game loads one more time. 8)

Thanks for trying, Doc! I'll keep digging, as BF2 is that kind of game that will keep me engrossed for the next 3-5 years!

WE NEED WIDESCREEN SUPPORT FOR IT!!!

X-Ray,

You've tried +fullscreen and +widescreen, right? Is there an option for

Code: Select all

+windowed

or something like that? Setting the window size to fill the whole screen will hide the window edges...

Yes, all of the variations I tried above also included +menu 1 +fullscreen 1. Those two items were present with the default shortcut so I left them alone. I didn't try changing fullscreen 1 to widescreen 1 however. Anyone what to give that a go?

That's not quite what I meant.

Is there a windowing option? If so, try to set a window the size of the panel. It's worked with a few other games...

Yes, +fullscreen 0 is a windowed mode. That's how most of the people found the initial error about the res side being all freaky.

Right. So what does...

Code: Select all

+fullscreen 0 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

...do? A 1680x1050 window that fills the screen? (Obviously only if that is the res of the panel...)

Does it still chop the top and bottom off?

Well, more good ideas, but unfortunately they still don't work. I tried:

1. +fullscreen 0 +szx 1280 +szy 720
2. +fullscreen 0 +fov 106 +szx 1280 +szy 720

Both of these lines gave me a slightly off centered window, but definitely no increase in the FOV. The top and bottom also remained cut off.

Bad news directly from the developer:

Hi,

The game only supports 4:3, so you can only render to file in other aspect ratios. Sorry.

/Jonas

You WILL NOT get BF2 in widescreen gameplay until DICE actually codes this into a future patch.

My response:

Jonas-

Thanks for the reply. I would like to formally request that DICE consider widescreen support in a future patch (or expansion pack). There are thousands of widescreen LCD monitor owners here in the U.S., many of whom are requesting it for Battlefield 2.

Witness the four pages of posts on the EA UK forum:
http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1453&highlight=widescreen

Also, there's an entire website forum devoted to widescreen gaming which also contains many posts requesting support for widescreen in BF2:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/

On behalf of those thousands of gamers who would LOVE to see widescreen support in BF2, please consider this request.

Thanks!

I have a 2005fpw on order. Can someone please give me a rundown of resolution options for playing BF2 with this monitor? I have a 7800gtx.

Thanks!

Open up the Battlefield2 shortcut Rightclick /properties
on target type a space at the end then add +szx 1920 +szy 1200 after the space, of course substitute your custom rez in place of mine

looks beautiful on my dell 2405

Has anyone tried to run the Dell monitor on Analog instead of Digital to see if we get other resolutions to appear? Just a thought. I can't get my analog port to work for some reason.

I was at a lan last weekend and saw 2405 FPW running at 1920x1680 res (or it could have been 1600x1200), I was too tired to see it clearly. Anyways the guys showed it to me in the ingame options. He didn't do anything to get it to work just installed the game. I didn't think about checking which port he was using.

Just a thought....if anyone could get their analog signal to work could you check please?

That doesn't fix the FOV, which is what the problem is.

CCC, you might reconsider. Picture BF2 completely filling a regular 4:3 aspect ratio monitor. Then cut off the top and bottom inch of your monitor. That is what you'll be seeing on your widescreen display. Granted, there is no stretching or distortion in what you see, but you're definitely missing parts of the battlefield. For this reason I'm sticking with a 4:3 resolution and putting up with vertical black bars on both sides. 8)

The only way FOV isn't a problem for you is if you are fine with seeing less of the battlefield than people with 4:3 resolutions. Then I can see how you have no problem with FOV.

Fix for BF2 crashes with widescreen

BF2 was crashing for me after switchign to 2405FPW. I used both the +szx and video.con hack to try and get it to run, but it baclscreened and returned to the desktop before running. I deleted *all* my video.con files and it then worked.

Cheers,
Ryan

ive tried it running 1600x1200 and 1920x1200, to me i dont notice any loss, so even though its there i cant notice it...

Im not saying there is no loss of FOV but ive played at 4:3 and 16:9 and ill take the 16:9 everytime in BF2
