Thanks for creating this tool.

Unfortunately the new version with API 2.1 doesn't work with the current Skyrim plugin. I've spent the last hour looking for an older version of Widescreen Fixer (with API 2.0/), but it's all linking to http://www.widescreenfixer.org/test.php (which redirects to the index page) or http://www.widescreenfixer.org/old.php, which has had all the versions older than 6 days removed - the oldest one is still using 2.1 API.

Any chance of a download link for a version of Widescreen Fixer with 2.0 API?

Thank you, that works fine for me!
As it failed with r311 and r344 I assumed anything in between would be the same.

I think I read that there would be an updated version of the Skyrim plugin for the newer versions eventually? Thanks again for making and working on this tool.

I added AMD Eyefinity support for auto-detection in Widescreen Fixer.

As soon as I finish porting the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning plugin and adding the Mass Effect 1 plugin, I'll release an updated version for everyone to test. :)

Hey Dopefish MW3 is kinda broke the chat and the kill txt box and the mini map are all on the left monitor. I think the last update had them on the center... Is there anyway you can fix this. I will be at PDXLAN this weekend showing off my system and would love to have it work right.

Thanks in advance

Post by dopefish »

For MW3 they've always been on the left side I think.

I'll look into it but there's very little guarantee that I'll be able to make anything happen this weekend.

Also, new build of Widescreen Fixer up.

It includes AMD Eyefinity auto-detection, a Mass Effect 1 plugin, and an updated Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning plugin.

Yeah, just minimize it to the tray, then right-click on it and exit it. The next time you start it it will appear in the tray.

Post by dopefish »

Could you provide more detail please?

"Nothing happens" doesn't tell me anything useful that I can use to try and diagnose the problem.

Does it crash? Does it tell you why it crashed? Can you look in the Event Viewer for more detailed information?

Post by timlardner »

I'm using Dopefish's widescreenfixer tool to play MW3.

However, the HUD is on the left hand monitor and not the centre one like I have seen other people's games. Is there any way to move the mini map using the software?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Never mind, it appears that I can't read. For ATI graphics cards, I need to uncheck auto detect resolution. Facepalm.

Post by dopefish »

Actually, as long as you're using the latest WIdescreen Fixer (r361 as of writing this), it will work with AMD cards.

One current issue that I'm working on solving is that plugins need to be configured first before being used for the first time. If you just start Widescreen Fixer, pick a game, and try to enable it, then it will use the default settings I set and not the settings you want. All you have to do is open the configuration page and then close it and it will automatically save it with correct values. This applies to auto-detection as well.

Try enabling auto-detection and seeing if the values that it shows are correct.

Nothing Happens for me too - now

Post by fodder »

Hi Dopefish,

I have had limited success with the Widescreen fixer and decided today was the day to get to the bottom of it.

I downloaded the newest one and tried it with Mass Effect 1. I start the game and start the fixer but the HUD is not shown and I seem to be very close behind the characters, I tried to set the number of monitors and resolutions manually as well. Those did not work.

SO I went to the WSF download page and redownloaded the c++ and installed that.

Now when I click on the widescreen fixer.exe it just disappears. I have booted and alll that to no avail. I opened process explorer and the process starts and exits within a second.

Any ideas?

Update

Post by fodder »

OK. I found it was actually creating a new process for each time I tried to start it. But the gui did not show up, but is minimized. So that is fixed. I am now trying to figure out why my games do not run right in the fixer.

Thanks!

Are you using the Mass Effect 1 from Steam or Origin? (Retail version is not supported and from what I heard will not work...)

I updated quite a lot in

Post by dopefish »

I updated quite a lot in Widescreen Fixer just now.

  • Widescreen Fixer: Widescreen Fixer now checks if it's already running and prevents itself from starting more than once.

  • Plugin.Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning: Merged some of helifax's fix with my existing ported plugin. This should now work better for single-display users just wishing to increase their field-of-view.

  • Unmanaged.DetectDisplays: Added support for portrait-mode detection under AMD Eyefinity and NVIDIA Surround setups. If it determines that you're using portrait mode, then the HUD will not be centered and will remain on the far left and right edges of the screen. After testing this myself with three 1920x1080 displays, having the HUD on the side monitors is much more preferred than having them squished into a 1080 wide area.

  • Library.DetectDisplays: Added aspect-ratio to DetectDisplays. As long as everything is being based off of the desktop resolution then the aspect-ratio only needs to be calculated once.

  • Library.Plugin: Added a base constructor to the BasePlugin class. This base constructor will initialize DetectDisplays and set up the property for it. If you wish to use DetectDisplays in plugins, add base() to the constructor of your plugin.

  • Plugin.*: Updated all game plugins that use Library.DetectDisplays to the new API.

Similar running issue

Post by balooga »

Hey Dopefish. I also am having issues with the gui to start in v3.1. I have had the same problems with all the v3x versions. I saw one of your suggestions about moving the plugins out so I tried that and then, the gui will start but obviously there are no games to select. I tried to put a few of the plugins in one at time but each time the gui would not load. It would show the same type of issues mentioned. It would appear in the Processes for a short time and then the program would close. The last version I have running successfully is 2.3.59. I am trying to use it with the COD programs. Windows Home 64 bit. ATI 5800. 3x22 monitors. I have been running on the other version with 5040x1050.

Thoughts? Thanks
