iam currently running catalyst 9.11 with a single HD5850 with no problems, wanted to update to 9.12/hotfix but will wait for my second HD5850 to run CF, my question is that will there be any chance of using Eyefinity through two cards in cf meaning the use of three DVI outputs on the cards to three monitors (2 on 1 card and 1 on the other card), if so this will solve alot of issues from confirming/increasing the FPS on games when setting up Eyefinity and also avoiding the need to use an active DP adapter...

Nope that is not going to happen, all outputs have to come from the master card, sad I know.

This is a repost, as it was never answered:

So just asking, does the new drivers still allow for the 4800 seies to use TH resolusions, because i've had the same drivers since I built my compy in the summer. I think I'm on 9.8 or 9.9.

I havent installed the hotfix, but yes, as 9.10 and 9.11 before it so far 9.12 runs TH resolutions just fine (using Windows 7).

Is this set in stone? Is there any chance of a software update down the road allowing for multiple-card connections or is just not physically possible?

Hi there,

I am having issues running 9.12 hotfix! I thought eyefinity was supported in crossfire, so i got me a second 5970.
When i enable ef when in quadcf, performance is bad, really bad. i have no problems running 1 monitor.Vantage scores 34k, fps in dirt 2 in qcf go down to 20ish with major stutter. When i disable cf,and run 2 Gpu's all is well again. So for now i have a 600 euro Videocard sitting in my computer collecting dust....
Has anyone got about the same setup,5970 quad crossfire running Eyefinity, or am i the only one having a useless extra heater?

I don't know if it is 'set in stone' just what was said with the ATi reps when it first came out, best you ask again on the 'ask Dave Baumann' thread, if you haven't already.

If the next driver focuses on CF + EF issues, I will consider renaming my first born to 'Radeon'. She's a girl, so it won't be that weird.

HAHAHA so the next driver is supposed to be out tomorrow right. Is there a 10.1 beta floating around anywhere. You think there would be one right?????

Hi Dick, you are not alone struggling with two 5970 cards. I am using CCC 9.12 with hotfix, etc. and Eyefinity will simply not work, with or without crossfire. In my case monitors are all Dell U2410s with native DP inputs. One of the monitors is connected to the mini DP port using the Sapphire supplied (or possibly Dell supplied?) mini DP to DP adapter cable. CCC just keeps telling me "not supported" and then flakes out every time I try to engage Eyefinity.

After alot of experimenting, I can tell you that the mini DP connected monitor does not play well on its own, or with any of the other monitors. Cannot use it as the sole monitor at all. When using it as the primary monitor along with one or two other monitors, it will show Bios info and even Windows 7 splash screen (in color) at startup, and then when it gets to the point of loading up the windows 7 logon screen, the mini DP connected monitor goes black and white, and CCC refuses to recognize it (with or without Cross fire on btw).

Given that the monitor is active and functioning fine until Windows log on time, am wondering if Windows 7 has some problem with the mini DP port... could that be? Anyone have any ideas?

Hi 2D,
i used to have the same problem when i used a passive dp>dvi earlier.Try to boot with 1 screen, then when windows is up and runnin, plug the dp connector.CCC will probably recognize the monitor then.
Good luck!

OK Dick thanks for the tip. Major breakthrough for me as I have been able to get Eyefinity to work for the first time by just booting up with one monitor as you suggested and then turning on the other two when up and running. Quite a thrill to see Eyefinity in action for the first time - it exceeds expectations.

Only two issues remaining:

a) The monitor (which has native DP) connected to the mini DP port (with a DP cable) is still displaying only in black and white! argh! I think a few other people including JayM14 have also not been able to shake this problem. Somehow strikes me that this must be a driver issue now that everything else is working.

b) Even after installing the 9.12 hotfix, I still cannot make crossfire work with eyefinity. When I set up my eyefinity group and try to engage crossfire, it breaks up my eyefinity group sending it back to three duplicate displays. only after disengaging crossfire can I then re-enable the eyefinity group. Similarly, when I engage crossfire first and then try to set up eyefinity group, it simply will not give me the create group option. :|

Any thoughts anyone?

I had the same problem.
I was testing my XFX 5970 Black Edition along with an ATI (OEM) 5970.
The XFX card, which came with the latest BIOS from November, worked fine with Eyefinity.
The ATI OEM card, with older BIOS from August, did not. It exhibited the exact same symptoms on the Displayport monitor as you describe.
I tried to update the BIOS on the ATI card, but never had any luck (perhaps because the BIOS were all from other vendors), and ended up giving it back to the guy I bought it from.
So I have a strong suspicion that some older BIOS do not work on Eyefinity, at least on the monitor setup I have (3 x 30").
Jason.

I have a XFX 5870 where do you go to find out what bios the card is using. Maybe I will flash mine if it is old.

The Catalyst Control Center will tell you:

Graphics -> Information Center -> Graphics Hardware
On this screen you will see 'BIOS Version' and 'BIOS Date'.

And please remember that you can 'brick' your video card if you do not perform the BIOS update successfully.
In which case you will need another video card in you system to be able to flash you 5870 back to the previous BIOS.

Yes I did know that and have an extra card I can use.

But thanks for the heads up. :cheers
