Well, I heard from a colleague of mine who has "acquired" the game  that the game has to load really often if you enter a new part of the game and the loadtimes are really long.

Sounds a lot like the irritating "loading" dialogs that used to pop up on Morrowind and Oblivion before we found ways of turning them off :).

For changing the FOV you should see?:

You can walk about 1km² before you get to the next area where you have to load.
Performance-wise, on my system if i put everything on high at 1680x1050 i get 15fps, i have to medium everything and run at 1280x800 to get 30-50fps. Because the world is rather un-colourful, dropping the texture resolution in the slightest really makes it look very very bland and last-gen. Lighting effects are still nice tho.

Couldn't find any setting in the cfg file when I looked, but there must be a way. An undocumented command or something.

OMG OMG.. Stalker is out! Can't wait til it arrives in the USA

Loading screens? Sigh, sounds like loading that occurs alot in that massive online game called Neocron

Loading? Thats gonna blow. Its the year 2007, all PC games by now should be seamless

ctrlsteef:

I stole your exellent screenshots comparison image adn posted it, along with some bitching, on teh official forums.

Perhaps we'll see if a developer will toss in his/her two cents.

I just couldn't fathom why theey'd make it lop off the SIDES as well.. very stupid.

Link to that thread: http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr&sec_id=2

I'm seriously disapointed. This type of widescreen support is not representative of a next-gen game.

Thats pretty dissapointing.

I wont have the game for a few weeks, I'll play around with it once i do, but im guessing someone else on here will have a solution/conclusion way before then :).

From reading the widescreen threads on that forum, I think their response is going to be pretty much the same as the response we got from EA/Dice with BF2/BF2142.

In other words: "Tough luck. We've got your money now, we don't care."

I never expected such a bad widescreen support from STALKER, I'm really dissapointed, we can just hope that someone of us finds a solution. :(

To be honest there's much bigger bugs to fry in the game. Proper widescreen is probably waaaaaaaaaaay down on the list of things to do.

Me thinks so too, and since my colleague mentioned the game itself isn't that good either I'm not gonna bother with this monster at all.
Good concept but totally wasted because of bugs, no widescreen support and bad graphics because of a too long development time, what a waste.

Just some of my thoughts/observations ...

After reading lots and lots of stuff on the web ... peoples thoughts/experiences etc. about it ...
There seems to be huge discrepancy's over whether it is good or not ... some love it some hate it ...

Some of you say the AI is bad, others think its terrific. Some say the graphics are bad, others think its pretty good. I cant recall the last time I saw such a wide diversity of opinions about a game. Overall I get the impression from the online review sites that despite some bugs, this is one not to miss.

... all the reviews are giving it good scores ... also posted on the nVnews forums ...
# S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Boomtown - 9/10
# S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - GameSpot - 8.5/10
# S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - PC.IGN - 8.2/10
# S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - GamePro - 4.25/5
# S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Eurogamer - 8/10
# S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - C&VG - 8/10

I think those that are having a hard time with it either just don't understand the concept ...
As a for instance ... some say the weapons are wildly inaccurate and "it takes 10 shots to kill a guy shooting him in the head" ... others say ... at the start of the game the weapons are very inaccurate but as you go through the game things get better ... it is designed this way.

Or ... they have a hooky/pirate copy with more bugs than the retail version ... or ... they haven't read the web to find ways around some of the bugs ...
For example ... quicksaves are buggy and cause crashes to desktop ... don't use em.

I also read that in Vista it has more problems than XP.

Also ...
As usual every one want's to run the game at MAX settings ... when they can't ... they moan ... very few games ever have been able to run at MAX settings at high resolutions at release.
For example ... FEAR ... COD2 ... DOOM 3 ... Oblivion ... FarCry ... and many more.

How many games do not have bugs at release ?
HL2 ... BF2 ... R6 games ... Ghost Recon ... UT games ... and many more ... all had bugs at release.

I'll make my own mind up tomorrow when my copy arrives but I think at the moment I am leaning towards ...
Overall I get the impression from the online review sites that despite some bugs, this is one not to miss.

You gota remember paddy that those big review sites mean nothing, their review scores are inflated so much.

Whens the last time youve seen a game get lower then 5/10 on something like gamespot or IGN?

http://www.destructoid.com/why-video-game-reviews-suck-part-two-30412.phtml

Very good read.

I dont remember HL2 having any bugs or UT games but the rest yeah big time.

Anyway

90% Done Dling.

Somethings whack... Stalker is out in north America on the 20th?
http://www.stalker-game.com/en/

Wiki says:
NA March 22, 2007

BestBuy says:
CD-ROM Release Date: 3/21/2007

Futureshop.ca says:
Released 20 Mar/07
Yet yesterday it said it was being released on the 23rd.
And its $5 cheaper then Bestbuy/ebgames in the US? How does that work out?

I read in the NV forums that STALKER runs 5-15fps faster in vista, so what problems are there in vista, propably crashes? :(
