A question about Radeon HD 5970 and mini DP

my question is fearly strait forword, Radeon HD 5970 only has a mini DP not a normal DP and i am wondering if a mini DP to Normal DP with the active adapter to dvi will work ?

Screen card (mini DP) => Mini DP~(adapter)~DP => DP~(active adapter)~DVI => DVI~(cabel)~DVI => DVI (screen)
will that work ? or do i have to forget the 5970 and get the lower grade 5870?

That will work. I don't like the idea of all those adaptors though! I brought the Apple mini-DP to DVI and it works OK (sometimes have to un-plug then re-plug the USB power when switching modes or just 'detect' the monitors in CC). Apple is also actually available in NZ unlike every other bloody adaptor so I didn't have much choice. BTW my Sapphire 5970 came with a mini-DP to DP adaptor in the box.

My Diamond 5970 came with the mini dp-dp in the box as well. I am using the Accell active adaptor, and it is working flawlessley so far on Dell 2209WAs.

My adapter have arived and (soonTM) my screens and my XFX Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition is at my door :twisted:

well At the moment i purcahsed a Passive MiniDP to DVI adapter and im running 2 screen's in eyefinity one on DVI and one on DP...

I have an active one in the post of the way for when i manage to find a new DVI cable for my 3rd monitor...

if i was you i would get the MiniDP to DVI active adapter from Apple.

In the UK its around £60 from them direct i got mine on way from amazon for £55.

Not bad compaired to the Over priced sapphire ones in OCUK for £82!!
