Samsung’s new MD230 displays announced
Hey All,
Took a while but the much touted Samsung "Eyefinity" Monitors appear to have been demonstrated at CES - The Samsung MD230's.
FTFA:
"...The new displays are expected to be available in early 2010 from Samsung reseller and distribution channels starting at an MSRP of USD$3,099 for a six-screen configuration and USD$1,899 for a three-screen configuration..."
&
"...Samsung’s new MD230 displays feature bezels that are 50% to 70% thinner than traditional displays, making for a more seamless ATI Eyefinity experience..."
Can't find any actual specs, pics or vids though which is annoying me. Anyone else seen something? Samsung's website is hopeless...
Lets hope they are worth it!

Cheers,
Helio.

2000$? Yikes.
I guess since 3 U2410 cost 1500+ brand new, thats not too much of a stretch. :?

Seemed a bit rich to me too, but I thought I better hold judgment until I see more detail. Having said that, Samsung probably think they can gouge us as no one else has a tailored "Eyefinity" or TH2Go multi monitor product....Just yet....

Supposedly the stand costs them 2-300$ too.
I wonder if its 16:10 or 16:9 screens.

Now they are:

They look ok but I am a little disappointed, I expected smaller bezels and a sleeker look... :

I still think the 6 panel setup is a total waste for gaming. That 3 panel setup looks wonderful though. That's 3x 30" right? I pity that VESA stand setup they're using. That's gotta put a lot of stress on a single stand. Also, what size desk is required for 3x 30"?

No, it appears to be 3x23".
3x30" would cost way more considering one 30" S-IPS monitor retails for about 1500$ brand new.
Re: Samsung’s new MD230 displays announced
$633 a piece gets you
23" 1920x1080
IPS or PVA (178 degree angles)
"50 to 70 percent thinner bezels"
Displayport + DVI
8ms response
3000:1 contrast
"The monitors can be set up in almost any combination needed--up to six total monitors, including:
3x1 Portrait
3x1 Landscape
3x1 Landscape + 1 extended
3x2 Landscape"
Those are the listed modes. Unfortunately I didn't see 5x1 Portrait + 1 extended, which would be ideal imo, but I fail to see how the current mounts would pull it off.
No indication if stand is included, though they are selling these not individually but as 3x and 6x sets, so I'd have to think they are.
I'll save my personal thoughts on this for another thread.

I asked this in another thread where someone posted about using 2 th2g's to hook up 6 monitors 3x2 landscaped, with videos on youtube.
I noticed that there was less or no fish eye effect with his set up,is that actually the case?what's actually gained or lost(visual real-estate-wise) using 3 in landscape vs 6
New Samsung MD320 Eyefinity displays...
Didn't see this posted over here yet?
Was introduced at Samsungs CES 2010 press event a couple days ago. Engadget finally did a hands on and some pics are now up!
Still not sure on the price but for the stand ($300 or so), and 3 displays, $1899 isn't that bad. Resolution of each display is 2560x1600.
I still want to know if they are TN panels though before I decide. Hopefully it will sell for below the MSRP. Maybe around $1500?
From Engadget today. Each display has a resolution of 2560x1600!

Typo on Engadget. They are 1920x1080. Must be IPS panels since they are 178 degree?

They are 23", S-IPS.
Maybe a mod can merge with this:

2 vids out on youtube FWIW:

&

Now this is probably a stupid question, but if I ended up getting a setup like this, 3D gaming (which seems to be around the corner) is going to require new monitors... :?
Right? :?:

Unless the panels are at 120hz, which I kind of doubt. Although I dont see any reason why 3D cant be done on 60hz. You would be limited to 30FPS, but thats better than nothing.
I also wonder if the G100s can push that many pixels. 5760x1200 is demanding enough, 3D requires double.
3D monitors mostly appear to be TN panels too, so you will be giving up better IQ and portrait mode.
Ive never seen 3D in action, so I dont know if its worth it or not. I'm as happy as a clam with my S-IPS eyefinity setup though, I'd hate to feel "needy" so soon.

Cool - thanks fatlazyhomer. Always seems to be something "just around the corner" that makes me hesitate when upgrading. I have not seen any 3D monitors yet either, just assuming it might be kinda nice... Especially in multi-monitor mode

I dont see any reason why 3D cant be done on 60hz.The reason 3D isn't done at 60Hz is because an image that strobes at that speed would cause headaches in people. It would also be twice as noticeable.
Did you watch Avatar in 3D?
Did you ever notice a slight strobing effect on the 3D? It would be like that except a whole lot more noticable.
Did you have a slight headache near the end? I know I did, mind you not bad enough to detract from the experience, but it was there. Now think about that headache, except now it's twice as bad.
Does 3D at 60Hz still sound like a good idea?

60 Hz isn't a problem in other 3D technologies:
