Doing some things now, but I will try the game later if it has any newer patches and use FRAPS to let you know.

I also liked the horse riding and Billy's whip and bow and shooting from atop a horse at a distance.

WHAT WHAT WHAT? What bow? Did you kill an Indian? I just snuck past em. Tell me.

The bow is an automatic pickup (don't have to press a number key) by walking over one of the indians you kill. I think it's one of the ones just before the arch bridge you ride across collapses. I think I get why they put in a certain amount of slow mo time for each firing of the bow now. It's a slower moving projectile and the slow mo makes it easier to shoot enemies that are moving. It's best used as a stealth weapon though because once an enemy is alerted and moving quickly it can be hard to hit them even with the slow mo.

The rifle is also very nice and easiest to use from a distance of the weapons shown in the demo. It's not hard to start collecting weapons from the indians if you take the pistol and ammo in the old man's house where you get the saddle. Without it it would be pretty hard but not impossible. There's also a pistol in a chest at the first indian camp you get to, obviously it's a lot easier to steal the old man's gun.

What I'm having a hard time figuring out is if it's possible to cross the river canyon without the horse. Billy says he needs a horse or log when he first approaches the guy's ranch. I looked around for a log to carry or drag with the whip but even if there is one I don't see how you'd get it in place to cross the canyon. I even tried attaching the whip to a tree at the side of the canyon and lengthening the whip and swinging, no go.

They could really open this game up with interesting stuff. Like having canyons too wide for the horse to jump but a dead tree near the canyon high/long enough to span the canyon. You'd attach the whip to it, attach it to the saddle horn, then pull it over with the horse to make a foot bridge. Maybe even give Billy a tomahawk to chop away at the tree's base to make it easier to break. Obviously it would make an interesting weapon too. I'd also like to see water buckets be usable to douse fires with because sometimes those you kill drop their weapons right near a fire where you get injured retrieving them.

I found the horse slap feature to be rather pointless, they only trot off a few yards then stop. If it were something you could make a horse run down trail a ways with you could maybe get the nearby indians to chase after it. Then kill the one indian left behind one on one and prepare better for the others after taking his weapon. I hope the patch addresses the sound inconsistencies here and there, but even if the performance increase isn't big it's playable for me the way it is. Sure hate those extremely long, slow level and save loads though.

Just ordered it off of eBay new sealed in box for $14.85 and $3.95 shipping btw. Lot's of stores are out of stock on this title now so I hope you can find one down under at a reasonable price. I'm hoping the game will have a Sharps rifle like the one used in Quigley Down Under. I've read you can play as a sniper in mp.

(EDITED)
A little trivia I just found via a weapon guide search. This is an exceprt from a GamersHell developer interview:

"What types of weapons can we expect to see?

We wanted to make a realistic game, so each weapon is a very historically accurate replica of the real thing. First of all, we have a whole arsenal of classic six shooters—Frontier, Peacemaker, Walker and Schofield colts, among others. Each one will also be available in a number of variants with different parameters (for example, older rusted models will jam or shoot over a shorter distance). We also have the Winchester M86 and Remington DB (including a ‘sawn-off’ version), which represent the higher-caliber weapons available in the game. On top of that, players will get to shoot around with the powerful Gatling Gun. You’ll also get bonus weapons—all in all, you’ll have 10 guns to choose from, and that’s not including all the variations.

We also have other types of weapons, like tomahawks, knifes, and the aforementioned whip. You can also use any object in the game as a weapon, or in your self-defense."

No mention of a sniper rifle but apparently there is a tomahawk after all. Maybe there's a Sharps as a bonus weapon, that would be cool. Odd that he didn't mention the bow. I don't see how it could be a bonus weapon because all I did was kill an indian along the way to get it. Maybe in the retail version you have to do something to unlock it though. I'm going to play through the demo again and see if I can find a tomahawk.

Well, with the system you can see on my message, running the game at 1920x1200 with all details.
Shadow details only at medium.
Having FRAPS on I got min frames at high 30s, max frames (for more than 1 second of course) in the high 60s and average between high 40s and high 50s.

Frag.

How in THE hell did you kill a fricking indian? I tried killing the old dude but Billy yelled "He aint my enemy" so I basically assumed I couldn't kill anyone whilst playing Billy.

Why would you even try to kill the old man? Your main purpose there is to sneak in and get the saddle for the horse. You so much as alert him and the game makes you restart that segment, unless you have a save you can use where you attempted the sneak. Just grab the pistol and ammo that are on the table at the front of the house on the second story while you're in there getting the saddle. Then sneak to the barn, ride off to the Indiana Jones whip ledge, approach the indian camp crouched, and hide in the bushes behind the big tree that's near the chest.

From there you can easily pop two of the indians when one walks over by the other (headshots), then quickly go to the big rock to the right of the tree for cover and take out the third from there. It's really pretty simple even on Hard. Make sure you zoom your aim when you go for headshots. I've been telling my friends about this game, they've never heard of western shooter video games. I hope more in this genre are made with even more attention to variety in gameplay.

I decided playing the game again after reading about it here. Yes, I know that it was me that mentioned it first.

Please remind me how to quick draw weapons for the two crosses effect.

Quick drawing is really only in the shootouts, whereby you lower your mouse quickly then bring it back up to simulate dropping your hand to your holster and drawing your gun. With the two crosshairs draw though you just need to have your weapons holstered when the slow mo builds back to full and click left or right mouse button to draw.

I wish I had DX10 hardware to play this game. Of all the comparison shots between DX9 and DX10, this game has more significant diffence in image quality between the two than any others I've seen. I've read that the DX10 Enhancemnent Patch causes artifacts in mp though. Since there was no DX9 version of the patch I assume what needed patching was mainly the previous DX10 Enhancement Patch.

Oh, btw, I found out via a vid on the net that they do have a sniper rifle, though it's a scoped one. Too bad they didn't go with the Sharps, seems it would have fit the game better.

I thought the whole idea of that section of the game was to sneak, so I snuck into the farmers house, got the saddle and FRIGGIN HIGH TAILED MY THEIVING ASS OUTA THERE!

Didn't realise I could have gotten a pistol...and slaughtered innocent indians.

(I like where I am going with this, so I am gonna continue. Do you mind? No? Good.)

I managed to sneak past all the indians too, until I stole one of thier horses and rode like lighting past all of em. See, I don't need to kill no indian. I therefore rule supreme. Zero kills, zero deaths. I am truly the evolved gamer.

You sire are a murderer! Should be ashamed! I think video games are going to your head...no wonder there are so many school shootings.

There is too much violence in games these days. I don't understand why FPS's can't stand for First Person Serenity

LOL, that's either a joke that bombed or you're bummed that you didn't get the bow you were so curious about. You can kill with it too btw. Sharp point on fast moving stick = pro - jec - tile. It's a shooter in the wild west, killing is what it's all about.

Then again Billy's levels are considered to be stealth oriented, but it's what many don't like about that part of the game. I decided to spice Billy's persona up a bit and I hope they allow as much leeway to do that in the retail version as the demo, sorta makes up for that weak voice over.

When I get the game I'll have to make a video of Billy splitting someone's head open with a tomahawk just to show you violence isn't always about guns. :D

Serious though dude, I knew you were making an elaborate joke because you actually tried to kill the old man. Leave that poor guy alone, he's just trying to find his old lady.
