ATI vs Nvidia TH2G Support

I'm getting my feet wet in the waters of surround gaming and am setting up the components listed below. But now I see on the Matrox site that most or all ATI cards are supported only to 2560 x 1024, but Nvidias go to 3840 x 1024. Does this mean my 3870 won't give me 3840 x 1024? If so I will return the video card (I haven't opened it yet) and mb and get an 8800GT and Asus P5N-T mb.

Previous ATI cards had resolution limits, but the HD2900/2600 cards worked at full capability. Because of this I imagine that the 3780 will also work fine. I can't check the specifics because that card is not listed on Matrox's compatibility page.

Thanks JKeefe. I was checking previous ATI cards like the X1950 on the Matrox site but should have looked at the HD2900. I think you are right, the 3870 should work.
