I've just finished it. Probably took me 7 hours or so. I was REALLY impressed with it, for several reasons. The 'Death from above' mission actually made me feel a bit...well, evil! The Pripyat mission was fantastic though, I loved the Ghillie suit! I like the fact that while it is still fairly linear (although it is a bit more open now), it really keeps the action going, and it's non-stop carnage!

'Death From Above' now holds a special place in my heart. Not just because I can blow away the baddies from the skies, but it felt like I was really their during the whole dialog.

I forgot about Death From Above. That really was a genius mission to put in as they could make it look completely realistic with the graphics.
Although also a bit chilling at how simple it was to "take a life" and the calm every-day attitude of your comrades celebrating your kills....

Agreed.

Is that the level where you're in a plane shooting at enemies on the ground? I hated that level a lot...

You guys aren't the only ones who felt that way. I was fine with shooting people in the face, on the ground, as they were shooting at my face too! Raining down 'Death from above' felt weird though. It was just too big an advantage, and they couldn't see me. It's like you are some kind of angry God smiting those that displease him...

My favourite mission was the sniping mission in Ukraine.

The "death from above" mission felt too weird. It reminded me of that real video from an apache mowing down some "Terrorists" in Iraq only that after closer inspection it is quite clear they were farmers. I felt bad doing this mission though the voice from your buddies were saying all the time how they are all enemy soldiers and no civilians etc.

It must feel weird to do this in reality, killing all these people in a second.

So far the game is ok, but I can't figure out why so many people call this one of the best games ever and the best game of 2007 etc.
In my view the PC version of Rainbow Six Vegas blew this away in everything other than scenario.

I also loved the Ukraine missions, with the Ghillie suits and sniper rifles. I loved the setting, which I liked in STALKER too.

I think it is the scenario that makes CoD4 so good. Rainbow Six: Vegas failed for me because it got kinda samey. Textures, weapons, story... the whole shebang.

If the scenario is uninspired, the rest of the game suffers for it. Crysis, for example - don't get me wrong, I really like Crysis - but I just feel it could have been so much more. So much better. It's like the aliens were an afterthought... that and the game was mucho short when it really started to get interesting. And escort missions... bah.

CoD4, despite having a few missions that I didn't really care for... made me feel. Death from Above left me almost in shock, while 'All Ghillied Up' was the most tense, nerve-wracking experience I've had in a FPS game that didn't involve scaring the living shit out of me with some odd horror angle. Lying in a field while enemy troops and tanks roll across either side of you, thinking you could be spotted at any second...

...that was a game experience that I've never had before. Who knows, maybe I've been playing the wrong games?

...

In fact, CoD4 is about the only game where I can honestly say I liked having auto-checkpoint saves.

I agree that Crysis had the potential to be so much better. Part of this might be due to the fact that it is planned as a trilogy, and also, not everyone can run it on high (loads of people on other forums complain about that, as if it is their God-given right to play all games maxed out when released!). Of course, I played on medium in triplehead, and it still looked fantastic.

CoD4 was much more fast paced for me, as I used Stealth in Crysis mostly, and clocked in at maybe 13 hours or so. CoD4 only lasted me 7 hours. I read complaints about Crysis' multiplayer all the time, but praise for CoD4, and while it is much easier to just jump into a game of CoD4 online, it's actually not anywhere near as deep as Crysis, with it's many vehicles, and weapons. Still, CoD4 is much more hectic and fun online, I feel.
