New Widescreen - New Games?

Post by hawkini »

Hi, I'm on the verge of getting my new Dell 2407 FPW, but haven't been playing that many games recently. I played Half Life 2 to death last year, and used to love playing C&C, but haven't really got into those Total War and Rise of Nations type games - but people keep telling me to.

I was thinking about getting Rise of Nations, Rise of Legends or maybe AOE III, but I was wondering what would really kick ass on the new monitor - please any suggestions as I don't want to waste my money on a dud game that wouldn't be superb on my new setup!

Thank you all for a great place to discuss this! :D

For FPS action, get FEAR. (even Fear Combat which is free)
For RTS action, get Act of War.

Both look stunning at high res. that's my opinion... now for another dozen games u should buy.

Oh for the love of... Do not get Rise of Legends. Just don't do it.

Go for either AOE3 or Rise of Nations. I'd personally say Rise of Nations because it's just such a kick ass game :).

Why not Rise of Legends - it looks so good?

It's really not. It's terrible in comparison to Rise of Nations. I was soo excited when the game was about to be released, only to get it and wish I could get my $60 back. It is just BAD.

OK - I'll steer clear of Rise of Legends, but I've seen some good stuff about Supreme Commander. Think I might get AOE III... Act of War looks good but reviews say it plays and looks like C&C Generals - and I got bored of that pretty quickly lol

lol you can ask but I'd have to kill you after I give you the answer lmao

not exactly the hottest component on your PC but I do a lot of video editing and burn DVDs with great regularity - so burn 4 at a time is handy :)

nope - why would you need 4 burners to copy 1 disc? lol

I do actually do a copy of Mysterious Cities of Gold in English which you can't buy anywhere as well - but mainly because the people I do video editing for want several copies.

Next purchase - a Full Tower case with 8 5.25 bays so I can get 8 burners lmao - no actually next purchase is E6700 Conroe... so with my new monitor I can render and process video a lot faster... :D

Dont you get problems if you burn 4 at once?! Like the IDE bus getting all full? No buffer underun issues?

Yes - and the best cartoon ever made too - excellent running story with sci-fi and old world stuff with aliens and GOLD! Everything a kid could ever dream about lmfao

Nope, not once. Of course, burning 4 Discs at the same time takes longer than just doing one, but it is marginal. My harddisks run off SATA raid and I use both IDE channels so nothing else goes through them. I usually buy 8x DVD-Rs because they are more value for money - and I get 4 discs done in about 15 minutes :)

Anyway - maybe 2-3 days till I get my monitor!

No, not really lol - just lots of fiddling with poorly taken and blurred video from cam corders mainly. Sooo looking forward to widescreen to fit it all on the same screen tho...

Seriously. It's like they took RON and removed everything and replaced it with the most watered down pile of garbage I've ever seen. It almost made me want to cry .
