Hi!
Following situation in the game.
I have a Dell 24"TFT and i want to play SS2 in fullscreen 1920*1200. But when i select the resolution in game, i have black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen. When i choose 1920*1080 as resolution, i got real fullscreen.
Anyone got the same problem? Or a solution?
Thx

I have a Dell 24" LCD. I had to choose 1920 x 1200 AND the widescreen option to get it to run at 1920 x 1200.
Hope this helps.....

Do you have it real fullscreen or with a black bar(1cm) at the bottom and the top?
I did use the widescreen option - but real fullscreen is for me only at 1920*1080.
What driver do you use for your Dell? Can u send it to me? Perhaps it is the monitor driver tat causes the error. I'll send u my mail as pm.
thx

That was using the default Windows Driver in XP. You can try that or download the driver itself from Dell.
Is yours the 2405?

Yes, but i found no location to download it at the dell site......
Strange.....what kind of GC you use? I have a ATI x850XTPE with the 5.10a display driver....
hmmm...i have no idea what can be the cause of the bars....

7800GTX SLI here with the 81.85 drivers. No bars that I noticed.
I downloaded the drivers last night so I know they are there. I'll find 'em and post a link.

thanks for the driver location - but it didn't help.
Here is a screenshot - taken at a screen resolution of 1920*1200.
I don't know what to do.....perhaps i can try older drivers for my GC. there my be a bug at the newer ones...

That is odd. No bars here. Could indeed be a video driver issue.....
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!

I don't know for sure (i only tried the demo), but I don't think Sam 2 supports true widescreen, despite the options.
See my old thread for some more info: (Paddy has some interesting comparison shots there as well)

Thx - but it does. You can change resolutuions to tru widescreen - there is an option to toggle widescreen yes/no.

chemistry,
Did you read the whole thread that Stretch linked? It might have options in the menu for 16:9, but it most certainly has a few quirks that can't be worked around...

Soooo, I'm thinking that its probably a good idea to bring this to Croteam's attention. They seem to be a pretty good natured bunch, and obviously did intend to support widescreen in the game.
The last time I talked to them was when the first Sam cam out and during that time their dev team was actually handling all technical inquries. I'll bet they'd be pretty amenable to any helpful suggestions concerning proper widescreen implementation.

Im running Dell 2405FPW, i have problem not being able to see 1920*1200 resolution in Serious Sam 2 or any other games, highest resolution i can see is 1600X.
I have SLI 6600gts and my drivers are 77.72. Can anyone help me what is the problem?

Definately update your drivers.
I'm no expert on this as I don't have SLi, but I think there were some sort of problems in early drivers of running SLi in a greater resolution than 16x12.
You could also make sure you have Dell's 2405FPW driver installed.

I did some forum combing at the official serious sam site and found this interesting post:
Mine is in perfect widescreen at 1680x1050. What you need to do is change the apsect ratio. Turning on widescreen in Serious Sam II will make it a 16x9 ratio, what we need is a 16x10 ratio.
Steps to make a perfect widescreen:
1. In the Serious Sam II folder under ContentSeriousSam2 edit the sam2.ini file.
2. Do a CTRL+F and find gfx_fAspectRatio.
3. Change the line from "gfx_fAspectRatio = 1.6777;" (or whatever ratio it is currently at...) and make the line say "gfx_fAspectRatio = 1.6;" (without the quotes).
4. Save it, start game, enjoy!!
I may just download the demo again and give this fix a try. :) Anyone with the full version wanna test it out?

My curious nature got the better of me.
Success!
I went ahead and re-downloaded the demo. Using the instructions above I was able to obtain 16:10 widescreen without any black bars. The cutscenes and intros also take up more of the screen as well.
1. Serious Sam II with default 16:9 widescreen:
2. Serious Sam II with .ini tweaked 16:10 widescreen:
I think this one can safely be moved to the Solutions section now. :D

Sorry buddy ...
If you take a close look you will see that the FOV is no wider than the 4:3 shot ...
In fact some of the top and bottom are being chopped off ... :(

It has more vertical view then the 16:9 version but indeed less then the 4:3.
