Greetings to all
I have 3 Dell S2240l's (http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-s2240l/pd), eyefinity enabled through an XFX R9 280x.
The connections are as follows:
1. DVI to VGA adapter
2. HDMI to VGA adapter ( By using a HDMI cable I was not able to get eyefinity)
3. MiniDP to VGA adapter (active)
Problem:
While searching for the monitors CCC recognizes one of the monitor's (DVI to VGA) as a CRT, hence reducing its resolution to 1600 X 900, whereas the monitors have a native resolution of 1920 X 1024. The resolutions of the others seem to be at 1280 X 1024.
By going to advanced display properties and changing individual resolutions of the monitors to 1280 X 1024 (highest available) I am able to get a group with a 3840 X 1024 resolution but cannot bezel compensate as doing so reverses the resolutions and brings one of the monitor's to 1600 X 900.
So my questions are :
1. How can I get the group to work in native resolutions, which is to say 5760 X 1024 ?
2. Should i change the first 2 adapters to HDMI based?
3. The graphics card has one more MiniDP port. Should I buy a 2nd adapter and run 2 MiniDP to VGA adapters with 1 HDMI ?
4. I thought the problem is more to do with hardware than software so I haven't tried the stickied custom resolution fix, should I do that ?
5. Pretty noobish question this, but does less resolution affect FOV ?

Hi, 
You will get a better image quality and quite likely better resolution detection by using the digital (hdmi) inputs on your monitors than VGA.
HDMI is also better at passing EDID information about your monitor back to the GPU so as to get better resolution detection which sounds like the issue you are experiencing with the VGA adaptors.
Personally I would go..
GPU DVI ---> DVI>HDMI adaptor *1 ---> HDMI into monitor.
GPU HDMI ---> HDMI into monitor.
GPU mDP ---> mDP>HDMI adaptor (active) *2 ---> HDMI into monitor.
*1 Alternatively use a DVI to HDMI cable - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Premium-HDMI-Ca ... 2KSAHQDWCM
*2 Alternatively use an Active mDP to DVI adaptor then a DVI> HDMI adaptor or cable as linked above.
My setup at home uses a AMD 7970 with 3x Dell S2209W monitors...
GPU DVI > DVI monitor
GPU mDP ---> mDP>DVI adaptor (passive) ---> DVI monitor
GPU mDP ---> mDP>DVI adaptor (active) ---> DVI monitor
...without any issues.

By going MiniDP ---> DVI(active) ----> HDMI, would I face any problems in transfer, as there would be 2 adapters involved?
or is it same as going MiniDP---> HDMI active ?
Reason I ask is procuring an active MiniDP to HDMI would be more difficult for me, if not impossible, so would prefer the former.

Running mini displayport to large display port connected to large display port to active dvi adapter connected to dvi to hdmi plugged to monitor and i have zero issues..
I ordered wrong cable, ordered a normal display cable to active dvi cable instead of a mini display port to active dvi so i just ordered another adapter and it all works like a charm..

Indeed, a DVI>HDMI adaptor are typically passive adaptors.
HDMI uses the same digital video signal as DVI, so its easy to split the video signal from a hdmi cable/signal.
As already explained, these do not tend to induce issues or any additional latency.
