Splitting the pwn single of my cpu header to control speed of casefans
It would be nice if all the fans in my system would spin up en down according to cpu/gpu load/temperature. Since my cpu fan will run at about 350rpm at idle and about 1150rpm at load I figured that if I could split the pwn single I would have my solution. To do this I bought this splitter. After opening the package I realized that it would only work if all my casefans have 4pin connecters and sadly none of them do. It is possible to install them anyway, but they will run at full speed all the time. Currently I can only think of one solution: buy 4 new 140mm fans that come with a 4 pin connecter. Since my fans are relatively new, it isn't the best solution. Any tips are appreciated.

That should work fine with the proper fans, reading around the net a good few people have run 2-3 fans directly off the header (not using the molex for power as the cable you have does). Another site said up to 5 fans could be run, but you should be able to fill your cable up no problems!

I got an Asus X79 Pro and i can control every fan! 1x CPU with PWM and 6 Case fans via Voltage over Q-Fan! I can even create a custom Fan Profile in my BIOS (UEFI i mean...)
You might try "SpeedFan" Though, i never managed to get it running on my Core2Duo ^^

I have a ga-z68x-ud3h-b3. Only the cpu-fan and the system-fan can be controlled. One thing I forgot to mention is that the reason I am going for this solution is that, when I am on my desktop the fans run a little too fast (and make a little too much noise). When gaming, they might be running a little too slow since I tend to overclock stuff (also when it isn't needed, just because I can ;) ).
So basically the solution I mentioned in the OP seems to be the best one. 120mm PWN fans aren't hard to find or expensive, 140mm on the other hand are a different story. I need the 140mm's because that’s the only size that can be fitted in the roof of my case. Here is possible 140mm fans I could use. The thermalright has good reviews, but also has 120mm mounts, so a no go. To me the best option seems to be the Be Quite! one. What do you guys think?
