Thief 3

Post by swaaye »

Darned developers seem to have fixed the resolutions available. Instead of UT2004 and 2003's make-your-own-res setting in the INI, Thief 3 has only settings like 1,2,3,4, etc which correspond to specific resolutions.

Uhhgg.....gonna need a hack I think.

 [goggles]

I'm not surprised! That is a high res! I'd reckon that even the new GeForce 6800 Ultra and Radeon X800 Platinum wouldn't be able to do more than about 20fps with that!

Sure, drop a link and I'll grab it and post it over here. I'm planning on overhauling the screenshot section anyway.

I take it you're nitrate over there? Be sure and drop a line about the forum sometime.

sorry, sometimes i forget we are "world-wide" he's a breakdown of the slang:

"i take it" means "i take it for granted" which "i'm assuming" or "i'm guessing"

"drop a line" comes either from the idea of using a telephone (and telephone line) to make a call, or to write a few lines down on paper as in writing a note. so what i was asking was for you to mention this forum to the other people over there who seem to have an interest in ws gaming

sorry for the confusion.

Heh, that's my post on the eidos forums, I'd already made it here and read this post before you linked back over :)

The fact that resolution 1 is a crazy huge resolution is interesting, though. Have you tried all valid entries? One might hold the key, though I'm doubtful, because of this interview quote:
Are you planning 480p, widescreen or HDTV support? (720p (1280x720)? 1080i (1920x1080)?)

Paul Weaver: For PC we support various resolutions up to 1600*1200. Currently we have no plans to support widescreen or HDTV.

The demo doesn't seem to run well on a ti4600; I've got a P4 2.4 Ghz processor and 512 megs of RAM too. It's slow as the creeping crud.

On an AthlonXP 2500+, 1Gig RAM, 5900XT, it's just about playable... but of course, that isn't my widescreen system...

On that (Pentium-M 1.5GHz, 512 RAM Radeon 9000) it runs like a three legged tortoise: going nowhere, not very quickly.

I just installed the demo and have viewed all the config files noticing that yes, it does use the Unreal engine. But alas, I too was not able to get it to support any custom resolutions. Any ideas, anyone?

I tried this game a couple of weeks ago (the retail version), and i couldn't get it in widescreen either. I ended up doing 1600x1200 and stretching it manually (Sony GDM-FW900).

But my system took a beating at the resolution, so i'm sure at 1920x1200 it wouldn't have been too fun to play anyways. (3200XP, 1gb ram, 9800Pro 128mb)

The game ran great for me, I pulled back AA/AF to 2x or 4x, iirc (I normally use 16x), but other than that, no problems. Running at 1024x768 (:( on my 1280x720 screen) on a Barton 3000+, 1GB PC3200, 9800pro 256MB DDR2.

I suspect there may be a way to hack the 'resolution code', where 1=640x480, etc. Maybe one could set 5=1280x720. I just didn't feel like messing with it :) Worse, Deus Ex 2 /does/ support widescreen resolutions via hack (as I just found out now that DE2 is $20). That means they specifically /removed/ widescreen support in Thief 3.

ION sucks imo.
