I currently have an XFX HD5770. i want to run eyefinity but i'm not sure if it can handle it.

I want to run 4 monitors like this. . . . .

.........................[.......]..........................2
....................[....][....][....]...............1...1...1

The top monitor will be a 27'' Samsung LCD and the 3 bottom ones will be 23'' LG LED monitors.

My cousin has a HD 5870 i can buy for cheap or i can buy a new hd5770 for even cheaper.

Now my question is should i buy the 5870 or another 5770 and crossfire.

And if i should buy the 5870 should i crossfire it with my current card or not.
I understand that cards in the same series can be used in crossfireX for a performance boost even if they aren't the same card.

I think Crossfire uses Alternate Frame Rendering. This means your system is kinda limited by the lowest common denominator (the 5770 card). It's probably not a good idea to Crossfire the 5800 series with the 5700 card.

I'd vote that you pickup the 5870 and just run with that. I have the 5870 Eyefinity6 edition running 3x1920x1200 and a 47" 1080p panel .... I'm pretty happy.

Hi, thanks for your input. I'd just like to know how well the 5870 will perform on games like Crysis 2, dirt 2 and new games coming out like battlefield 3 and Skyrim. will it run @ high settings or not?

I have 2 6970s in crossfire and it runs a lot of games from bad to average. Most of games doesn't work with crossfire and single card can't handle my resolution with high graphic settings in some games like BF3, Crysis 2, and etc (5944x1080). But a lot of another games (Dead space, NFS, Left4Dead) having good FPS with single card. My suggestion - never use CF with cheap cards, buy single 5870. Hope this will clear your mind to make right decision

So I'm not sure, are you happy with your system? I have the same graphics wise, but have not setup Eyefinity yet. 2 6970's are not cheap cards eh?

No, a single 5870 will not run new games (BF3) on high settings across 3 screens. No one knows how well Skyrim will run, it's not out for another month. Right now I'm still enjoying BC2 ... I run it on low because I care more about framerate than anything else.
