The existing PC versions were "HD" in the first place. The only thing they're lacking is native widescreen support, and I doubt many PC gamers would buy a re-release that only offered that.

A patch that enabled native widescreen support would be most welcome, though.

Just a curious question if they do make a HD release which version of MGS solid do you prefer the PS1 version or the GC version?

:cheers

PS1/PC is the definitive version of MGS1, and it would be a travesty to not include it.
GCN remake would be a nice extra, and would benefit more from the high resolution, but the original shouldn't be pushed aside.

I didn't see much difference between the PC version of MGS and the GC version, beyond the GC version using the MGS2 engine.

The biggest difference, I think, is that the cut-scenes, voice acting, and music are completely different. The cut-scenes in particular are way more over the top than before, and considering this game is 80% cut-scene and voice acting, dot dot dot.

Even then, there's nothing about the GC version that's actually the same as the PS1/PC version, other than overall designs. The levels for instance are designed to be like the original, but they aren't actually the original - they didn't just take the old maps and re-render them with the MGS2 engine. Somebody did every aspect of the game all over again, from map designs to texturing. It's sort of like the remake of Psycho - every shot in the remake is very similar to a shot in the original, but they aren't the original shots, and it won't be the definitive version of the movie any time soon.

As I don't own any on the originals I would.

I don't know anyone personally that owns the originals aside from a couple people in this thread.

They don't count unless they would buy a re-release that had native widescreen support.

You would be surprised. Simply throwing something up on steam, even if that is the only thing that changed can generate some great sales (look at the original Quake on steam)

But they did throw it up on Steam. The recent cel-shaded one too. All of them with HD support.

They didn't change anything, but they didn't change anything in the original Quake either. In fact, they made it worse by not including the music.
