Dual-link DVI-D, Single-link DVI-D and VGA issues

Post by shousa »

Are these assumptions correct?
1) Matrox needs a dual-link output from PC
2) A single-link output will not work so VGA is the only alternative in my case.

You assumption is correct.

If you have a card outputting single-link dvi, i would defiantly buy a new better graphics card. In generaly nVidia cards can be made to be more compatible the TH2Go then ATI cards, but the 4800 series does work.

Hey suiken_2mieu, you have both softh and th2go on 5 monitors, wow!

Thanks for that.

I guess that also means that 4320 by 900 (which i have achieved already) is the max I can go.

So 5040 by 1050 is out with VGA.

I think this info would be handy in a stickie or wiki or something.

By this I mean it is important to check you do not have a single-link DVI output use VGA in that case instead.

I had to system restore a few times to get my screens back after resolution changes (note that using single-link to matrox makes all the screens look blurry, weird and split screen or go black) which made the screens go black.

I cannot change my graphics card because stupidly I bought a Sony VGX-TP2 Media PC (Which is essentially a laptop) as I thought I would not do gaming. Now here I am 1.5 years later with FSX on it with 3 Saitek panels and rudder pedals and throttle/joystick!

No, ati 5000 series doesn't work at 5040x1050, it'll only do 3840x1024 or less.

The 4000 series works perfectly.
