Theoretical DLP 3 projector setup--which would you pick?
Theoretical DLP 3 projector setup--which would you pick?
Greetings--occasional forum browser here...
If you were considering a 3 DLP projector setup (to be used for racing games), which would you choose, disregarding price?
1) 3072 x 768 (3 x 1024 x 768), running at 85Hz
or
2) 3840 x 720 (3 x 1280 x 720), running at 60Hz
Thanks very much in advance.

First is an aspect ratio of 4:1, second is 5.33:1... not sure, I'd probably go with the triple 720p setup though.

2nd option, it has more resolutions so it'll look better.

Having done both, I would suggest 3072x768 over 3840x720. The height of the projection is more important than the width when considering triple projection. 768 > 720. My preference of 3072 over 3840 is because 3072 is sufficient to cover 180 degrees and anything over 180 degrees tends to be totally messed up with gaming engines.

i am using three acer h5360 720p screens.
3x 50"
nice thing about these projectos is that they support 120hz - 3d. so when nv releases there stereo surround drivers in march you have the option to get the full bang ;)
this video is from iracing too. the guy is using 3 benq w500 720p projectors.

Thanks all very much for the replies.
@ BHawthorne--one question if you don't mind: did you notice any difference in the smoothness of motion when using 85Hz (as opposed to 60 Hz)?
@ DefDan--now THAT is a cool pic! The 3 projector video is rather nice too...

Re: Theoretical DLP 3 projector setup--which would you pick?
@DefDan- have you tried your setup in 3D Vision Surround now that the drivers are out for 720p projectors? I am about to build something similar to upgrade my current 3D rig (Mits 60" rear projection DLP TV, single screen only.) My big worry is w/ triple 50" or so size, the outside halves of the left and right screens will likely be far enough to my peripheral vision that they appear outside the area the 3D glasses cover. In other words, out of the corner of my eye when I look ahead, that is where the outside of the screens would appear to be from my mock up, and I wonder if this is distracting if the 3D glasses are not more wrap-around type, which the Nvidia glasses I have are not.) SO I want to find someone somewhere who has done triple projection 3D Vision Surround to see if that has been an issue.
