Yea works, not sure Warden will like it though.

Is there a tutorial on how to get that working?

Hex replace 39 8E E3 3F in the executable with whatever aspect ratio you want (http://www.wsgf.org/article/common-hex-values)

Just tried it myself and yes very quick to put in but again I do wonder what the Warden anti-cheat engine would react to this.

I opened the Overwatch.exe in a hex editor and searched for 39 8E E3 3F (hex for 16:9 aspect ratio) believe i found that hex string twice in the file. I changed the second one (about 3\4 the way through the file) it found to 8E E3 18 40 (hex for 21:9 3440x1440) and bam main menu was in 21:9 ratio. Didn't go further than the main menu because again don't how Bizzard's anti-cheat would interpret this change so didn't want to risk it.

If you need a different hex value to change for your res then look here http://www.wsgf.org/article/common-hex-values

EDIT: Sniped to the answer, still nice to know I did it the same way :D although @ggouki did you replace both instances of that hex string or just the last one like I did? Just curious.

Man I'd love to do this for surround, but I'd also be worried about getting banned. Damn Blizzard are such hard-asses when it comes to ultra-wide resolutions.

Editing the second HEX value mentioned by Brook of Clay did the trick for me. Looks great in ultrawide, though I wish the first person view scaled with the FOV slider - guns just look way too big - though that's a complaint I have with the visuals regardless of aspect ratio.
I tried a game online and running through the tutorial with the edited .exe on a secondary account and I didn't run into any issues (aside from some minor bugs in navigating the hero gallery from the main menu). That said I'd hesitate to play the game on my main account let alone with a full priced copy of the game with the fix on. Best that we can hope for is that Blizzard addresses the 21:9 support and lets us play in ultrawide without tinkering.

So I just gave the hexedit a try on the official release... I said &%^* it, if Blizzard wants to ban me over making the game work for my monitor then go ahead... I could NOT get the previous hex edit to work. HxD only found one 16:9 string (there was mention above of two of them in the main .exe file during the beta) and I changed it to 21:9 and no dice, it looks like the game wants to start in 21:9 then it forces itself back to 16:9. Any suggestions? I'll be your guinea pig!

We really need backup on this from the ultra wide community, this is bigger than just Overwatch. http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatc ... 0744334240 There is a thread going here, it's one thing to not support 21:9 it's another to ban a fix the community comes up with simply so we can play on our resolution. Please help by voicing your support for 21:9 within, and if anyone finds a fix let me know!

Seems like you can only reply to that thread if you own the game, and I'm not buying it until it has 21:9 support in one way or another.

Hey guys,

I'm new to these forums but have been using your DB for a good few years now. Very helpful.

I've created a few posts on both PCMR sub reddit as well as /r/Overwatch.

Drop your feedback into the overwatch post as the developers are more likely to see it.

I have come up with some sort of fix for ppl which will like to get rid off black bars till Blizz fix this =)

i have come up for temporary fix if you cannot stand thous black bars on sides (this is for Nvidia users)

Sample from Predator x34:
https://goo.gl/Qz5W9A
https://goo.gl/kR1vWK
https://goo.gl/MhltB1
https://goo.gl/TXlfsk

1. If your desktop is not native 3440x1440 then make one in Nvidia control panel and make it active on desktop http://prnt.sc/b9axi1

2. then go to "Adjust Desktop Size and Position", check mark on Full-screen, Perform scaling on: GPU and check box on "Override..." Set resolution to 2560x1440 http://prnt.sc/b9axb2

3. Start the game, go to Options and then Video, change resolution to 2560x1440 and WUUALLA :D

If you want to get more perfect quality then increase "Render Scale" (oc if you have good horse power of gpu)

I'll pass on a stretched screen, and I think Blizzard has made it pretty clear they don't intend on changing this.

Blizzard has made no indication they intend to fix this but they made no signs they were going to fix Heroes of the Storm either they just did it out of the blue.

Ultrawide support is coming mid to late July, confirmed by Jeff Kaplan earlier today.

I just downloaded the latest PTR build which includes some of the features of the upcoming patch. Here are the results for ultrawide support.

21:9 resolution with 16:9 picked as aspect ratio. FOV 103.

EDIT: Here's a comparison between a beta build with the hex edit vs the 21:9 option currently in PTR.

Jeff Kaplan (Game Director on Overwatch) made a comment on the subject:

Quote:
We do not plan to increase the max FOV beyond 103, in any resolution. As a result, this doesn't leave us with a lot of options for 21:9 support. I know this is not the answer our 21:9 players want to hear. But we feel like it would be unfair to 16:10 and 16:9 players if 21:9 gave a substantial FOV advantage.

An incredibly poor showing from Blizzard.

What a load of bullshit. They may as well cap the FPS at 60 while they're at it so no one with a 144hz monitor will have an advantage with smoother gameplay.

I'm willing to try an FoV hack if someone can make it. This is progress nonetheless but I think we can get to where we want.

Buy a 16:9 monitor, cover the top 1 inch of it with tape, bam you're playing 21:9.

Thanks Blizzard! Bunch of morons.

Blizzard really fails hard at supporting ultrawide. We fought with them for years to properly support it in WoW and they never cared.

This "support" they've added with vert- scaling is a friggin insult.

Had someone login to their account on my system to see if 21:9 was any good and if I could finally buy Overwatch myself. It didn't look right so I came here to check/confirm. Ugh, I can't believe how sucky they are being about this. Of all the things to be sticklers about, a little FOV boost, really???

So.. free weekend is here, now everyone can try it. I did, and I got nauseated halfway into the training mission and had hot flashes by the end of it. Attempted to play a bot game and I had to exit it by the end and felt absolutely terrible afterward to the point where I had to go lay down due to feeling like I was thrown in a tumbler.

Been any development on the 21:9 front (ie; fov fix) since this 'support' was implemented?

Spent the last few hours trying to search the internet for a way to modify the game to get into Hor+ either via a hex or memory edit, have come up dry and I'm not a coder or reverse engineer so it's a futile effort to try and guess myself.

Threads are still going on the official forum about this, and Blizzard are still silent.
