Hello all, longtime fan of WSGF.

I'm currently using a Samsung 305t monitor as my main display and it's a great monitor, but I was tossing around the idea of looking around for a true widescreen monitor in the 32" size. The 16:10 aspect ratio of the Samsung 305t causes some gaming problems here and there with it not being the current widescreen standard. It's not a big problem as it is easily fixed using ingame aspect ratio/widescreen options or using Nvidia Control Panel to set aspect ration scaling. Still I am looking around and I wouldn't mind the extra bit of horizontal view from a 32" monitor as opposed to the 30" Samsung.

The trouble is there is hardly anything out there in the range of 32" actual MONITORS and not just TV's and is 1080p. The majority of 32" monitors are 720p which is not even a consideration and the scant few 32" monitors that are 1080p are questionable as far as quality and performance. A main concern is dot pitch, the Samsung has a great dot pitch for a 30" monitor at 2560x1500. I have only found two 32" monitors that I would even consider. The ViewSonic CDE3201 and the PHILIPS BDL3245E00. The ViewSonic sounds decent for the price but the dot pitch is listed as 600mm...do they mean 0.6mm-ish because that would be pretty poor. The Phillips sounds like the better choice although it is pricier by over $100.

Any thoughts on these two monitors? Anyone have any suggestions for any 32" PC monitors that are 16:9 and 1080p?

Also, thanks in advance for bothering with my self-indulgence here.

I'd take 3x 30" 16:10 displays over 3x 32" 16:9's any day. Games have no problem running 16:10, and as you said there's always aspect ratio options in GPU drivers. Put that saved cash into a nice monitor stand or a fourth display.

If you want something wider, in 1 screen then I guess the 29" Dell would be a good choice. It is still 1080 lines, but is 2560 pixels across. Another alternative is to go for a "squarer" build with 3 screens in portrait.

I can say I have just gone from 1680x1050 at 20" (16:10) to 2560x1440 at 27" (16:9), I don't notice any loss in vertical resolution, because of the size of the screen, but if you go from your 1600 line screen, you will probably suffer going to a 1080 line screen that is probably smaller top to bottom due to the wider aspect ratio.

All things are worth considering IMO!
