hey guys,

id like to get me a new laptop, mostly for university stuff but you know, sometimes you want to watch a nice video, or you feel the need to play a little once in a while.
i have a pretty nice gaming setup at home, so i dont need a super high end gaming laptop.

Acer Ultrabooks with the new gt 640m cought my attention as a friend of mine has good connections so i could get a good price.

anyhow, there a 3 options.
i3 2367m with 500gb HDD
i5 3467m with 500gb HDD
i7 2637m with 256gb SDD
all feature the gt 640m

so my question is, how big is the difference of these three cpus?
the i3 is 1,4ghz, the i5 at 1,6ghz and the is7 at 1,7ghz.
but the price for the i7 is almost twice as much as for the i3...

i dont really need the 500gb hdd or the the 256gb SDD, i would upgrade the 500gb HDD to a 128 gb SSD, which would be enough for my needs.

thank you in advance!

I think for what you want it for, you won't notice much difference between them actually. I would probably get the cheaper i3 or the i5 one personally :)

thank you,
i hoped theres not much difference, but the i3 has no boost function, so it will stay clocked at 1.4ghz which is no option for me =D

I would get the I5 one:) Dual CPU (2nd generation sandy bridge) + Turbo Boost +500gb (you will need them trust me) . SSD speed is not actually needed on a laptop. Personally I find the SSD only to boost the loading time of the OS and other applications. For game loading times on a regular mechanical drive are little anyway:)

Hope this helps you:)

I'd go with the i5 laptop too. SSDs have become an essential component of a laptop for me, far less chance of damage in case of high shock and increased speed, especially if you're the sort of people who turns a laptop off or hibernates, rather than just putting it to sleep when you're not using it... :)

the i3 doesn't have boost funtion? stuck on 1.4ghz ? you're gonna fall asleep!

and IMHO SSD really is needed in a Laptop! If you transport it in a car HDD might break (yes, did happen to me! After traveling 3 years without any problems ^^)
For me 120gb are enough space on a Laptop. But i don't have much stuff on it, just what i need. 1-4 Games some Videos and Software.

as far as i understood the M3 has a 20gb ssd cache, so it should come back to life after sleep very fast.
but right now i would also go with the i5, but i will wait for the M5 to appear and see how this one compares, maybe the m3 will be cheaper by then :P
