Post subject:  Need help for Solution/Configuration

Hi,

I recently bought a new PC (see signature) and I would like some tips for a 3 screens system. It is not yet ready for it (I think) and I have to buy other items to do so, but I don't know which one and how to be able (hardware/software solution) to do everything I need.

Here's what I need to do:

Play latest PC Games and MMO
I don't need the 3D or the "hardcore gamer" solution, I just wanna play the game on 3 screens with a good FPS/resolution.

Watch movies
Watch a movie on 3 screens (maybe the "Windows build-in" span mode can do it??)

Surf and work on multiple monitors
I need to be able to move a window from the main screen on an other screen and work/surf on it.

Until now everything seems simple, but here's where things get complicated...

I have also an HTPC and very soon a local server and I have to be able to work on them with the same 3 screens.

Clearly, I want three monitors and choose to send on each of them the signal from any PC, where all are controllable with only a mouse and a keyboard (and switch monitor with hotkeys). After reading a lot on many web site, here are two ways that seem possible to me (but I may be wrong, that's why I'm here).

SOLUTION 1: Diagram
Buy an other GTX 560 Ti to doing SLI and a 4X2 True Matrix HDMI Switch. Each computer will send a DVI signal converted in HDMI and receipt by the HDX-402E switcher, then it will redistribute this signal to the monitor 2 and 3.

Pros:

  • Price (around 375$).

  • DVI/HDMI signals quality.

  • Have PC1-2-3 on LCD2-3.

Cons:

  • LCD1 will only display PC1.

  • Have to find soft to control the HDX-402E (RS232) on Windows 7 (hotkeys switch between screens).

  • Don't know if it will works well.

SOLUTION 2: Diagram
Buy a KVM 4ports and a TripleHead2Go. The TH2Go will be behind the KVM so he will receive only one signal which are PC 1, 2 or 3. Unfortunately, the price of KVM 4ports DVI is out of my budget so I will maybe have to take the analog version.

Pros:

  • Build in switch to control PCs and monitor.

  • All PC are on all monitors.

Cons:

  • Cannot control 2 PC at the same time.

  • Price (must take VGA version).

  • Don't know if it will works well.

I will also have to buy the 2 other monitors (have an Acer x223w) but can't find some with ultra thin edge. :( Maybe I will buy 3 new monitors ... 2x 20'' and 1x 24" because I really don't want to seen a big "Black Bar" in the center of game/movie.

Budget to make a 3 screens system (including monitors) around $1000 CAN

Any comments or suggestions are welcome ... it took me all day to translate and try to clearly explain all this. lol !!
