Has anybody here had experience with it? I'm looking at these two:

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Wifi is driving me crazy.

My family close to me uses it... I think it's better than Wifi. My opinion.

I tried powerline networking out when it was still quite a new thing (within weeks of the first models coming out) and it was great... until the plug adaptors started to overheat, at which point they would go horribly, horribly wrong.

I hope newer ones have fixed this, but haven't tried 'em.

You're not going to get gigabit speeds out of them, but neither are you going to crawl along at 802.11b speeds. I think mine tested out at around 70Mbps when they were new and working right.

Just realized I put this in "general gaming" instead of "hardware". :doh Thanks for the replies though!

Take a look at this. Seems to get some great reviews. And it looks cheaper than some of the alternatives.

I've been using a Netgear HDX101 for 1 1/2 years at least with a ReadyNAS I wanted to put into a smallroom. Way better then WiFi. The only problem I've had, is that I cannot use it with socket multiplier. It needs to be connected directly to the wall. Fun part is that you can connect it to any socket in the house without any configuration needed. When I've had friends over for some gaming, I've removed it from the nas and connected it directly to a computer in the living room. Instant connection as if the computer connected directly to the router. :)

I'm sure I had mine connected to a six-gang extension lead...

The reason I was looking into this in the first place was because my WiFi was woefully underpowered for streaming HD media via PS3MediaServer. Both my desktop and the PS3 are on a different floor from the router so this looked like a good option.

Then I mentioned it to a friend of mine who does IT Systems for a corporation on the nearby Native American reservation. He gave me a reaming for even considering it, and told me it would be a lot easier to just let him make me a crossover cable. He can be an elitist jerk, though so I'm definitely keeping this on the back burner for the future. Hopefully Netgear will get off their asses and release their gigabit model.
