I have a Asus P7P55 LX motherboard with i5 750 processor & ATI 5970,and was just wondering if i changed the motherboard to say "Asus Maximus Extreme" would i see a significance improvement in performance ? I'm not really into overclocking,so would this board be a waste of money for me ? |

The best motherboard has the features you need while being the cheapest. If you are not going to utilize the features provided on a more expensive board (often things like SLI support, better power management to the CPU for overclocking) then no there is no reason to get one. You will see virtually no increase in performance. |

You might also have a performance gain if your motherboard supports SATA 3.0 and you have a SSD drive capable of more than 3 Gb/s. |

Unless you specifically need a feature present on a higher-end board rather than a lower-end board, they're not worth it. Presuming they use the same chipset, you will at most see a few percent performance difference between them, likely in very limited synthetic scenarios. In real world use, they are to all intents and purposes the same. |
