So I have an ati 5770 xxx edition and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to flash the bios to the reference one to allow for a higher overclock. Right now I can only oc to 960 gpu and the reference ones can be oc'ed much higher. Feeback is much appreciated!

Do you mean you're encountering a limit in the overclocking software preventing you from going higher, or that you can select higher, but it crashes/isn't stable? Changing overclocking software can fix the first (although I haven't overclocked an ATi card since my X1950XTX, so I've no idea what to use on that front) but if it's the latter... a BIOS flash won't solve that.

+1 to Paradigm Shifter comments.
A Bios flash will nto resolve the issue and could even potentially make the card even less stable.

If you are finding that your limited by the software to overclock your card, then try using Gigabytes OC Guru.
You can use any ATI OC software on any card, be it MSI’s Afterburner, Zotac’s Firestorm or even Overdrive in the Catalyst Control Center.
OC Guru goes a bit further than the Control Center by allowing you to alter voltages on the card also.
Use GPU-Z to monitor the cards speed, voltages and temps, with fraps to monitor your FPS during benchmarks such as 3d Mark/Vantage and or Heaven 2.0.

I would recommend you also check out this ATI OC guide

I forgot to post again last night, but I did solve my problem. I ended up flashing my 5770 bios with an unlocked one from asus, and now I am able to overclock much higher than I could before. Im so happy I didnt brick my card. If youd like, I can post the link to the guide that showed me how to do it.
