Post subject:  need some advice on getting a new lcd monitor - HELP PLEASE!

I am currently running a samsung syncmaster 22" LCD 2ms monitor. I love it, its gorgeous, i play bf2, pr, cod etc... I am interested in going bigger. i notice once you hit 24" and up the resolution is 1920 x 1080 for all of them it seems. i dont want to go bigger than say 26" my question is, is the game gonna look as good on a 26" widescreen as it would on a 24" at the same resolution? i assume the pixels are going to be bigger so its not going to be as crisp/sharp. keep in mind any monitor i get will have a 2-3 ms response time so that shouldn't be an issue, and most likely 400 brightness. but i want to make sure before i buy that i am buying the best monitor for the quality of picture.

a few i am eye balling:

anyone got any feedback for me? which would you get out of of those monitors? or can anyone recommend different monitors?

thanks alot!

For games it shouldn't make a lot of difference. Remember a HDTV is normally only 1920x1080 even at 50", if you sit far enough away you don't notice the lack of pixel pitch. By definition you should sit slighty futher away from a 26 than a 24 and thus negate the pixel pitch "problem".

so i will be sitting approx 2 feet away. I hope that is enough to negate the issue.

i have been doing alot of research but its hard because there are so many factors to look at. from my understanding you should try to get:

lowest pixel pitch
highest brightness cd/m2
right?

the problem is out of all the monitors i look at 1 will have the lowest pixel pitch and a different one will have a higher brightness, they are all 2ms response time. so what is more important??

also, 1 of them has an LED backlight lcd display panel. is that way better than a normal lcd?

what about those monitors i listed, does anyone have any suggestions?

I dun know about LED monitors, but LED TV's are pretty nice. The benefits of LCD, but the deep blacks and vibrance of a plasma. High brightness and low pitch are what you want, ideally, but unless you're using it in a bright room and sit really close to your screens, then i wouldn't worry about those specs too much. I also consider warranty support when i purchase.

Those are all fine monitors you linked to. I'd take any of them.

the LED just allows for 3 different things:

1) Side-lit not backlit, which makes the screen far more thinner than before

2) Local Dimming, where a portion of the screen that is meant to be black is dimmed to make it look darker

3) more vibrant colour (with use of Red Green and Blue LED's, not white LED's).

Generally LED's at the cheaper point on monitors is being used for 1, but the technology allows 1, 2 and 3 to be possible, as long as you want to pay for it.

so i guess my next question is: if you were going to buy a new monitor, for gaming, first person shooters. which out of these would you pick? or would you pick something else, around these price points.

You seem to have the basic of what you want down.

Read suer reviews from Newegg and Amazon (they have the most, typically) and make an informed choice.

All of those will ahve a least a bit of blacklight bleed, and they're all fine displays. One big sellign poitn for me is VESA mounts. AT least one of those doesn't have it.

what is backlight bleed and how do you determine if the monitor has it?
