Post subject:  Buying new 24" monitor, need help deciding.

I have been using my LCD TV as a monitor for too long now and wanted to get a real TFT monitor.

I have been looking through the regular shops around here and it seems there are some screens that are popular among the buyers.

And those are Benq G2411HD & G2412HD as well as the Asus VW264H.
The Asus being a little more expensive though :/

What I do not understand is the difference between 2411 and 2412? The 2412 is 23,6" instead of 24" but that is the only difference I can find. Then how come more people buy the 2412 which is smaller and about 20 USD (when converted from SEK) more expensive then the 2411 which is full 24"?

So what are your recommendations regarding these 3 screens?
Or do you think I should go in a totally opposite direction and buy another screen then those 3? Then please recommend such, but keep it in the same price class.

Thank you beforehand for the input.

I did not find any reviews for those monitors so can't really give any advice except for the general one which would be to look out for reviews as information given by the constructor is often completely off the reality

and since sometimes even screens with the same model number have different "panels" ( samsung 226BW anyone? ), I would advise against blind buying without relying on solid reviews to back it up.

The problem here being the lack of reviews. All I have to go on are peoples comments.

According to the manufacturer's spec pages for each, the BenQ G2411HD and G2412HD are only different in size. Other than size of course the pixel pitch is a bit tighter on the G2412HD because it's smaller.

BenQ G2412HD

What's odd is Prad lists one as having speakers and the other as having a headphone jack for some reason, even though BenQ lists both as having just headphone jacks.

I wouldn't put too much stock in people buying the G2412HD over the G2411HD. Many are no doubt convinced they're getting a new improved model just because it followed the other one. Then again it wouldn't hurt to contact BenQ and ask if the G2412HD by some chance has better scaling features or something than the G24121HD.

In this case I'll advise against those...
and rather choose one that's been reviewed and matches your needs
unless there's some rare feature that those got and none other ...

But then that's only my opinion. you might want to check out : http://www.digitalversus.com/article-357.html which is my reference website for screens. (they're not perfect but it helps choose a model & find more)
(and check out the "product face-offs" too)

Thanks for the url. Too bad it had neither of the three screens I was thinking about.

I've been reading a little around on Swedish forums and they seem to recommend those 3 screens which is why I am choosing between them. But no one will answer me when I wrote the question about the difference.

And to frag maniac, yes I have seen those "specs" but that doesn't say anything rly, it can be two completely different experiences even though the specs are the same, or it can be identical, just sizes that differ, which is why I am hoping someone else knows about them a little more.

I would email BenQ on the details. Ask them if the panel size is the only difference or if maybe the new model has something the feature list/spec sheets do not show, like different scaling options or even firmware versions. Sometimes firmware updates alone can make a big difference in performance on things like input lag and such.

Or you could contact them direct since they have a Netherlands regional HQ near you.

Personally I'd avoid TN models though. In this day and age of e-IPS monitors coming out with way better image quality in the same price range, it wouldn't hurt to look at other options. Apple for instance will soon release a 23" 1920x1080 e-IPS made by LG, and word is many other manufacturers plan to use the same panel for their displays.

Thanks for your reply. The thing is G2412HD is not a new model. They both came out the same day.

I would love to buy an e-IPS monitor, but I don't have a lot of money to put into a screen. If the e-IPS screens cost as much as the Benq and was in Full HD I would be all over them :/

So if you know any, please do recommend.

I bought the G2412HD. Since they didn't have G2411HD in the store, had to order it in. But they had it on the wall as a demo ex, and they had G2410HD next to it which is also 23,56" instead of 24". And it was exactly as big as the 24" for some reason. So that made me ok with G2412HD being 23,56"

Haven't had a chance to try it yet. But the G2411HD has good picture on the shop.
