Hello!

So, I've been getting a new display for a while now, but now I have finally found two displays that would suit me well. They are BenQ FP241W and HP LP2475W. The display will be used for mixed purposes (Gaming, Movies, Internet...).

So, which one should I get?

Its hard to know, as few people have experience with either of them, and obviously even less have handled both of them.

But they are both great monitors so ive heard.

HP's has a H-IPS panel, while BenQ's has a S-PVA panel. HP's is a wide gamut monitor and the BenQ's is a standard gamut monitor.

I would go to the BenQ, although it has a panel of lower quality, because the sRGB mode in the HP is "useless". You'll see oversaturated colors on the HP. With the BenQ not, you'll see the colors *as are*. The BenQ is a "gamer monitor" and the HP has a lag about 2 frames average (32ms).

So how much worse are the contrast and colors on FP241W than they are on LP2475W? Doesn't the HP one have better colors as it is H-IPS? What's the deal with FP241W as some report it as an S-PVA and some as *-MVA? Which one is really the faster one? Digital Versus at least says, that LP2475 would be about 5-10 ms faster than FP241W on average.

Which one should I get? Somehow I'd like to believe the HP one is better, but seems like everyone are telling to get the Benq. :?

If it doesn't matter the wide gamut issue, go to the HP, if not, go to the BenQ.
Some people claims that the wide gamut feature riches the playing experience, but don't forget that wide gamut monitors are intended for photography and graphic designers and they will show oversaturated colors, specially reds and greens, in non color-managed applications. Currently, there are a few applications that are color managed, like Photoshop, Acrobat and Firefox 3. In applications non color-managed, you'll see oversaturated colors, including the Windows Desktop. However, Windows Photo Gallery of Vista is color managed.

The HP LP2475w is a very good monitor, better than the BenQ for sure, but its sRGB mode is a PITA. The sRGB mode does not work at all, and you'll see oversaturated colors even in this mode.

It's a personal taste to like the wide gamut monitors or not. If you're not absolutely convinced, get the HP from an online store with refund guarantee. If you don't like the pure colors of the HP (BTW, wrong colors), send it back and buy the BenQ.

if possible, go to view both monitor in person...

i personally got the BenQ FP241W and it is great (at least comparing to TN panel monitor)

make sure your calibrate it :D

What is this sRGB mode? Is there no way to change settings so it isn't oversaturated?

I definitely would, but it is not possible for me. So how is it for gaming? Can you feel the lag, like you supposedly can on 2408WFP?
