Now that the HD 2900 Pro's knocking about, it's looking quite appealing! Especially with the early benchmarks show it can be overclocked to and above 2900XT standards.

So which would people recommend? I can't find any comparison reviews yet, between the Pro and the GTS, so I'm not really sure. If anyone has any links to reviews that'd be awesome. I've read this one http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1189/18 , and it seems to suggest that it's worth the buy when compared to the GTS. DX10 tests seem very unpredictable at the moment it seems, but it's still worrying nonetheless.

Is there still a huge problem with both cards for Drivers and game support? Which has better?

Surely there's a reason that no-one I've ever seen or spoken to owns an HD 2900XT, is it because it's a lot worse than a GTS, or that it's price point is too high when compared to the GTS 320mb? The 2900 Pro would correct this problem if it were true.

For the record, i want to buy one next week, and my current specs are in my sig. I'll be playing at 1680x1050 res, so the extra VRAM on the Pro probably won't make too much of a difference.

The Nvidia drivers are broken for a lot of people related to the correct aspect ratio. What is the AMD front on that matter?

Doesn't the 2900 use far more power and produce more heat than the GTS?

I wouldn't touch an AMD card now, but it's your money.

ATi's cards have never quite worked right with FARS.

And yeah, the 2900's draw so much extra power that it's rather silly. I'd go for the 640MB GTS, rather than the 320MB. Or if I wanted stupid amounts of graphics RAM, a 1GB 2900Pro (I believe they're on their way...)

@ Paradigm... But the 640 is about $100 more expensive.

The HD2900Pro is only compared to the 8800GTS 320.
After reading the tweaktown review, the HD2900Pro isnt using to much power... it is even lower then the nvidia card :D

I recommend the ATi :D (off course!)

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20070925130640.html

says the pro is the "defective" xt's that couldnt do the full speed required of them so its a limited time offer to get rid of the backstock of cards.

so it should be identical to the xt just at lower speeds, how much the lower speeds will change the power draw if any at all tho who knows. Says there will be 1gb versions too probably however they could be 12" long!!! WTH???

I know the deal sounds really great with a gimped 250$ XT however it wont be long for the next wave of cards to come around and nearly double the performance. So if you need a card now it seems like a sure bet, but if you can wait abit I think I would wait for the next round.

Since its limited tho finding one may be fun... so far only place I have found for the US to buy one is newegg with a specified search, and its marked up to 280$ and if thats the case I would pay 20$ more and get an open box 2900xt for 300$

The thing is, my brother's moved house and wants a new PC there, so I said to save him some cash, I'd give him my old PC parts. The only thing he'd need is a Graphics Card and instead of buying a new one for him, I might as well give him my current one, and I'll get a new one as he doesn't play many games. So I'm gonna be Graphics-Card-less come 10 days time, so i HAVE to buy one of them!

And I don't really care about Heat and Power usage i have to say.

Am i right in thinking from reading other threads here, that the 9800's have been delayed till next year? Or are they still coming out in November? I thought they were delayed which is why I'm more partial to buying now.

In that case, I've had such trouble with nVidia drivers recently that I'd go ATi.

ooo results 50/50

As I've been looking at which card to get, i settled on the nVidia (after using ATI for years) for more robust graphics options, and it performs a bit better on -most- benchmarks.

Of course if yer running at higher than 1680x1050 then i suppose the extra memeory woudl do you good.

My brother decided he wanted other things for the new house instead of a PC right now, like furniture n shit (pff!) , so i haven't bought it. I still look at it every day though...Waiting for it to come into stock [here] .. (less than 150quid!)
I need to sell something or other to buy it though...

This is about the best deal I've seen yet in a video card. 30% better performance than a standard 8800GTS for close to the same price. It actually benches amazingly close to an 8800GTX, for a LOT less.
