I lowered the res a bit 4600 somethin / singelplayer

got 50% load on card and about 30-55fps

ultra
70-95% load on card and about the same fps though depending on area, usually lower end maybe even lower


bottleneck?

Only advice i can give is to upgrade your CPU or at least overclock it if you can.

I agree, you have a very powerful GPU paired with a much older CPU, and it's undoubtedly holding you back at. I remember seeing a HardOCP benchmark of the 7970 that showed it could play Battlefield 3 well at 5760x1080 when paired with an i5 2500 CPU, so if you upgrade to the i5 3570 you should performance greatly improved.

I would advice going with the 3570K, because it's not going to run hotter / louder than the T model at stock speeds, and you'll still have the option to overclock it should you need to later down the line.

Edit: I found the HardOCP benchmark for BF3 paired with an ii7 2600K OCed to 4.8GHz. They had it playable at 5760x1200 on Ultra with Motion Blur and SSAO, so it is clearly your CPU that's bottlenecking your system.

Avg FPS 35.5 on singelplayer according to that page, multi would be more demanding
Anyways ordered me some things as I need to get it up to spec anyways

Just for reference, i have a 7970 vapour x and run eyefinity across 3 24 inch screens and get between 120 and 200 fps in CS go on eye finity with all maxed out. But i do have an i7, so i think that what people are saying is correct, its the bottle neck on your cpu.

i agree, your cpu is your bottleneck. also i wonder if your psu is up to the task.
the hd7970 supposedly pulls 300 watts at full load.
i have 3 24 inch monitors with 1 hd7970 and can play bf3 with most settings on high
average fps 50.
i72600 @ 4.5 tho. hope this helps

As you guys said, changing CPU did the trick the GPU is now around 99% for BF3
Normally 400W should be enough for a single gpu system even if it's clocked

what CPU Do you have now?
