I went and returned the monitor. Had to sacrifice 5% of the price for them to let me return an open product, oh well. Then I ordered the DELL G2410 LED display. It is still TN panel but according to reviewers they are saying the LED technology negates out the bad aspects of a TN panel. So looking forward to it, only bad thing is it does not have any HDMI port :(

Well true, the 2209WA is not full HD, but I don't recall you saying you needed it for anything but console gaming, where 1680x1050 would suffice. Apple is coming out with a 23" e-IPS that's 1920x1080 which uses a panel made by LG. Word is many other manufacturers will be using this panel as well. So by the end of the year there could be several brands of affordable 23" 1920x1080 e-IPS monitors on the market.

On sRGB vs aRGB, the "s" version is a HP/Microsoft color measuring standard that only approximates the gamut, vs the "a" method being Adobe's standard made for printers which more accurately accounts for all colors in the gamut. That may be why you're not getting very good results with sRGB, though it certainly would depend on the display and the source material being viewed.

On the LED lighting on a TN, I wouldn't expect it to do nearly as much as they're claiming. LEDs do offer a more pure form of back lighting, but at the end of the day, it's still just back lighting. A TN still has the tradeoff of 6 bit color depth requiring many of the colors to be synthesized via dithering or "pixel blending".

Apple already has a 24" by LG, H-IPS and LED but it's freaking expensive ^^; tripple the price of the monitor I just bought.

I'm well aware of that. Why would I mention that one when you're being price conscious like most of us? The whole point was LG is making the e-IPS panel I spoke of and many manufacturers are interested in using it. So affordable IPS quality HD displays (in the 23" size anyway) may soon be common.

well in any case one can't be sure of the quality of screens that are not out yet... even with good e-IPS panels, the electronic behind it still plays a big role... that's why nothing beats a well reviewed screen unless you're lucky ...

i would say the best screen now will have 0-5ms input lag normally, 120Hz native refresh, 8 bit colour and an LED backlight. but that would probibly cost about as much as a car.

thinking 24" and 1920x1080 or 1200 with DP, DVI-I and VGA, HDMI as well :P

not too much to ask eh? :P

/wishlist

add to that
- vertically adjustable
- colour pre-calibrated (+ ability to fine-tune it since even today some screens have colours completely off & not enough options to correct it manually)
- menu option to adjust between 4/3, 16/10, and 1:1 aspect ratio modes
- zero dead pixel warranty from the manufacturer itself
- wide viewing angles
