I'm aware of the A01 revision, though I thought it pertained mainly to the 2707 and was due to input lag rather than color accuracy.

If you end up just wanting to limit your spending to around $200, you may want to consider something like this...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236051

...at least that way you'd have true HD res, and 16:9 to boot, which fits movies better.

A 21.5" screen @ 1920x1080 has a pixel pitch of only .2479. That's a smaller pitch than the 30" displays @ 2560x1600 have.

Well, the 2408 apparently has quite a bit of problems with input lag and color push (at least the A00 does).

As far as that monitor goes, it looks nice but I don't like that two of the three reviews cited backlight bleed and the other one was negative overall. I'm also not a fan of buying an LCD from Newegg - they have a crappy return policy as opposed to TigerDirect's 30 day satisfaction gurantee. I'm likely to need such a gurantee because I don't want any dead pixels and none to minimal backlight bleed. Newegg would say tough luck, Tiger will work with you. Sadly, Tiger's selection isn't quite that of Newegg's - mostly full of cheap low quality stuff from what I see. They keep pushing those stupid I-Inc monitors and some cheapo 22" Acer. The Viewsonic to me appeared to be the best monitor they carried for $200.

Are there any other monitors like this? I see lots that say "1080p" but their resolution isn't truly 1080. The 1080 part is the main reason I wanted a 1920 x 1200 display and the big reason I despise the idea of using a TV as my monitor - most in my size range are 1366 x 768. I will not throw the Asus out of consideration though. Anything else you could recommend?

Newegg is just a reference I used for product and reviews, it's not necessarily an endorsement on where to purchase. Also, for ANY piece of hardware to average a solid 5 eggs out of 98 reviews with only a few mentioning backlight bleed is not exactly bad.

The thing is LCD panel technology is not a perfect science. You'll never see two screens exactly the same as far as back lighting and pixel quality. The actual LCD panels themselves are separated into categories of quality before being sent to manufacturers.

I don't know of any other HD res displays in that size, though I haven't checked. Chances are if this were merely a display that accepts a 1080p signal and down converts it, you'd see it mentioned in the reviews. Instead I saw them say full 1080p res.

As you can see, ASUS tends to say it's a "true" 1920x180 too...

http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=2641&l1=10&l2=89&l3=830&l4=0

...which is further verified by the pixel pitch they list.

I know what a hard decision it is to buy a display, esp when sight unseen. If you limit yourself to ones you can see in store though, you may end up cutting yourself short of your best option.

There are some manufactures that have better than average pixel warranties and return privileges like Planar, but you end up paying more for them and planar doesn't have any 2ms ones.

Ah okay, gotcha. I didn't see that it had that many reviews, I thought since it said new arrival it only had three reviews (Durr, guess I should look at the button that says view all reviews). That's not bad at all then.

I mean, 24" was my original preference but I'm getting some other things I'm looking to purchase (non-PC related) that may be taking away the monitor money I've put aside. Is there any chance I could get a 24" display for anywhere close to the price that is any good or is the Asus my best bet?

Anywhere close to what price? The only way you're really going to find a 24" as cheap as it sounds you want is to get a TN one or a used or refurbed PVA.

If you watch the movies mostly on your TVs, 22" isn't really that bad just for gaming, esp one that can go that high in res with such a fine pixel pitch.

I watch movies on the PC - it has a THX Certified surround system and a nice sound card and audio cable totalling around $450. I would be an idiot not to watch movies on my PC, so that's what I do - watch them on my PC.

I'm well within accepting a TN panel to get the cost low enough on a 24", but what would be recommendable. Also, I have seen no refurb 24" PVAs near that but I would consider them as well. Could you show me some examples of both?

After that find on the 2408 on eBay I'd say you're just as likely to be able to find such a thing as I. However if you mean finding a refurbed 24" PVA at $200, I think you're asking too much there.

I have found a Viewsonic VX2025wm for sale on my Craigslist for $170 in great condition. I made an offer for $150. I looked it up and the monitor is a Premium MVA! This would be a great deal no? I was looking to spend around $200 or less and this is a great compromise and a gain since I can get my MVA monitor anyway.

I purchased the Viewsonic VX2025wm for $150! It looks pretty good but I have a few questions I'm sure someone here could help me with:

1. It seems as if the corners are diagnoally a little bleedish - is this normal?

2. The screen almost appears kind of greasy looking despite the fact I cleaned it with a damp microfiber cloth. I can noticeably see it as opposed to seeing a pure untainted image. Is this also normal or can I do something to make it stop? It seems more noticable on whites and greys and less noticable on dark colors such as the blue background on this forum - but it's still there.

3. I notice that when viewing dead on the middle of the screen looks good and accurate but the left and right edges start to fade a little bit and look noticably different depending on what I'm doing. In Crysis it made it look like the edge was dimmer. If I tilt my head to the side it normals out but viewing dead on it does this. Is this normal?

And I should say, is it normal with regards to a P-MVA display? I did a comparison at a testing website I use for LCD displays and this is clearly far superior to a TN panel. Then again, I've never used a TN personally so I can't say I know myself but judging from the bad vertical washout TNs have this does not have that at all.

I'm not sure me getting this monitor at this price was a good thing though! I may spoil myself on this technology and be forced to fork over big bucks for a bigger one whenever I go that route! Also, is this display HDCP ready?

Dude. Do something about your signature. Forum rules respectively ask that you limit it to 5 lines, IIRC. : P

I don't know much about PVA panels but that might be the reason it was cheap in the first place.
