Heheh, looks like we're on the same page. Although my brain knows 'immersion' comes first and foremost from good framerates in exciting games, a silly part of me is on the lookout for everything supposed to make me 'get into the game' a bit further...

Actually I'll probably make the jump to full amBX soon, although I'm not really interested in the fans and rumble pad I can get'em for less than 60€, so why not buy 'n try ? This should allow me to prepare a nicely detailed review in a couple months...

I got the full kit. Well the speakers is nice (though not nearly as good as my pure digitheatre platinum 5.1 home theater speakers)... But really the fans don´t work... To short cables and to small just makes a lot of noise... The rumble pad is a disaster... So unergonomical resting your wrist on that one and in the games I tested it with it only has one rumble effect it feels like... Really if you would get it get the starter kit. I actually enjoy using it with movies and music when I remember to activate them. I can see potential in some games as well but I wouldn´t say it´s essential by any means meaning I don´t miss it that much if I don´t activate it...

I would suggest you spend the money on a Novint Falcon instead if you just want something to spice up your gaming. Or a bass shaker if you don´t have one already... Or a killer sub woofer...

Remember you want to have them next to a white wall and since they aren´t very strong you need to be able to darken your room totally for best effect. Buying several is recommended but it´s not worth it and they take some desk space...

So as mentioned get the starter kit or this http://www.a-r-e.nl. I don´t have that so don´t know if it´s as good or better.

So that's what AmBX is. Interesting product. Maybe it's just my own tastes, but that setup just seems like a giant distraction. I'm the kind of guy who almost never uses rumble features because they actually disrupt my playing ability to some degree. I don't think lights flashing around me and fans in my face would be my cup of tea.

scavvenjahh, I'm very interested in hearing more of your experience once you get the full setup.

If I can scrounge up the money someday, Triplehead is still at the top of my list for gaming enhancement.

I saw ambx at the blizzard event in paris...it was working with WOW and for that reason I bought the stater kit!! It's F-ing awesome for movie too. I think a price of £80 isn't bad and I think it will catch on. At uni my dorm roomates all crowd into my room for movies :D

Looks like the amBX guys are getting ready for 2009... (or getting rid of unsold stocks ?)

New Point Of View bundles will be soon available : full amBX kit + BiA:HH + nvidia graphics card (9600 GT to o/c'ed GTX 280)

http://www.pointofview-online.com/default2.asp?content_id=2083

The ever-too-enthusiastic guru3d has a review focusing on the amBX part. (Guess what ? It's a Recommended buy. If the prices are right, it might as well be, if you know what you step into.)

I still don't know when my very own amBX review will be done (or even get started...), but here's a quick list of not-so-cool things you should know :

-the whole thing takes an awful lot of space all around your desk
-cords everywhere, strange design choices (size/position of connectors...)
-the rumble pad is a thick noisy annoyance for the most part
-the volume knob is a software control afaik (i.e it adjusts the volume of Windows, not of the speakers)
-colored lighthing barely nears the colors on screen : the more subtle the colors (HDR, smoke) the more comical the effect
-stuttering/'frameskip' issues may happen...

Still, yes ! amBX is a pretty cool experience. If you wanna make the jump, just be sure to gather info on the compatible titles available and stay up-to-date with everything amBX : it'd be a shame to underuse such cumbersome peripherals...

Starter kit is at sellout.woot and includes HAWX. So if you're looking to buy the game, it's quite a deal.

FYI: $50.

Wow
Of course, HAWX is full-amBX enabled so you might want to consider purchasing the fans and rumble pad while you're at it ;) (Starter Kit + accessories = Experience Kit, much better than Gamer/Premium kits imho)

Woops, late reply. Well it's been working great, the biggest issue being the limited numbers of full-amBX enabled games. I had loads of fun playing HAWX, Far Cry 2 and... Legendary, partly because of the extra immersion provided by the rumble wristpad (placed... under my feet) and fans.

In other news, OFP2 will have full amBX, and here's your chance to get a free copy : (only 10 games to win... sadly no amBX hardware)

The game is appearently a heavily scripted, joypad-friendly, narrowscreen piece of trash, but hey... :hide
