Post subject:  Should I get another 660ti or just get a new card?

Hello, I discovered this place a few weeks ago once I discovered the magic of gaming on 3 screens so thanks to you all for being such a great resource. This seems like the right place so someone let me know if I need to move the post.

My current setup is a single EVGA GTX 660ti card and 3 1080p monitors (one of them is older but I plan on buying a new one after this upgrade), to run most high end games at a good frame rate I usually have to put the graphics on mid to low settings. My current plan to remedy this is to get an get an identical card, send my current card in for repair (I'm getting graphical artifacts in a lot of games), get a new SLI supporting motherboard and a new power supply while my card is getting fixed. My other option would be to just get a better card instead of spending all that on upgrading half of my computer. I'm new to the whole multi monitor thing so any advice would be great. Is there something here I'm overlooking, what should I do?

I would probably go the better card route, sell your old card and get a GTX 780 if you want the Nvidia route, or wait for one of the new Radeons when they come this fall.

I currently have a gtx 570 2.5gb sli rig and while its awesome performance wise for triple wide at decent fps, there are drawbacks such as microstutter where my framerate can be capped at 30 and once it goes to 29 itll feel like its at 20 fps lol

getting a single badass GPU is better than a dual setup from what i learned lol

this is my advice, but there are plenty of more knowledgeable folks on this board that can probably prove me wrong

happy hunting!

Post the rest of your specs as CPU and motherboard are also important.

From my recent experience purchasing a GTX 780, it is expensive at $650, but is fast and quiet. Since I have a Core i7 @ 4 Ghz, my video card was the smart upgrade.

Also consider the GTX 770 at $400.

In either case, you can add a second card next year for another performance boost.

My mobo is a ASRock Z75 Pro3, my CPU is a Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo). What kind of performance does the 780 get you with 3 monitors?

Either go with 2 x GTX 770 for $800, or 1 x GTX 780 for $650 (and have the option to add a second 780 later).

Your CPU and motherboard are good, so it's video you need to upgrade.

So far I run everything 5040x1050 with Max/Ultra detail and get playable frame rates (DVI, DVI, HDMI->DVI cable). I do overclock for a few games (e.g. Hitman Absolution) as it noticeably smooths them out. (+135 GPU / +200 Memory). I do see that in the next years titles I will probably want a second GTX 780, and if I ever upgrade my monitors I will certainly need more power to run higher resolutions.

The GTX 780 is so quiet, I never really notice the fan, as compared to my dual 470s could get loud.
